Finally the creator of the Japanese Hot 100 #1 song of 2018 "Lemon" released its parent album last month, his fifth under his real name.

They're a bit weird about singles in Japan, they tend to release the album almost at the end of the singles campaign, and new song "Kanden" was the fifth, I think.

I knew this album was going to be a big deal but I didn't realise what a blockbuster it would be, it sold a million copies in 10 days (in a country about double the population of the UK for comparison).

He's a prolific writer, his songs for other artists have something recognisably Kenshi about them - think the Sia of Japan, except without his choruses being shouty repetitions of song titles. Two songs on the album are his versions of hit single he wrote for other artists too.

Here's the album. I've been enjoying it so far but not had the chance to concentrate that much on it yet. But since half of it is made of singles I love, I can't go wrong.

As for what kind of artist he is, it's quite hard to pin down - he has his singer-songwriter moments like "Lemon", more artsy moments like "Spirits of the sea" (track 14), and more funky city-pop stuff like "Kanden" (track 3), really love him.

Oh, and I said this is 5th album under his name, he used to be a vocaloid artist called Hachi. I'm sure he's done something for Hatsune Miku before

not really, actually I was going to post an Alexandros thread until I realised none of their singles would really grab anyone. Wataridori’s album was half good. But “Sleepless in Brooklyn” out now.

I really like this. I think I'm a Stray Sheep fan.

yeah I suppose he’s not a singer’s singer, I find his music interesting more than his voice. My last shot would be 馬と鹿 (Horse & Deer) track 6. It gets all orchestral and climactic
