Going through the albums tonight to compile a new Madonna tracks countdown #comingsoon and I've had to review my list above - MDNA is by and large absolute TRASH. What a load of noise.

Rebel Heart is a complete mess but I think I understand now when people say that there's a good album in there somewhere. There's certainly more gems than I remember, especially the bonus tracks.

MDNA - the jewels, the trash, the legendary Cher meme.
Madame X - a fantastic signal that her eye (literally one of them) was back on the prize and the multi-task-Donna treating album as something she was juggling with was over with. Shame the songs aren't always songful.
Rebel Heart - some great stuff here.
American Life - sucks the juice out of Mirwais and mild lo-fi album can't take the attack it bafflingly invites. Next time she takes on American war patriotism at least have a Vogue up your sleeve.
Hard Candy - fitness freak does Rn'B

2. Music - I think we underestimate how absolutely wild and innovative this was for a superstar album in 2000... Best song: Music / Gone

4. American Life... Best song: Nothing Fails
5. True Blue... Best song: La Isla Bonita
6. Confessions II... Best song: Danceteria
7. Confessions on a Dancefloor... Best song: Jump

10. Bedtime Stories - the first big drop in quality where only the singles really work for me - but they are all 11/10... Best song: Secret / Bedtime Story / Human Nature / Take a Bow

12. Hard Candy... Best song: Devil Wouldn't Recognize You
13. MDNA - on the strength of Masterpiece, Falling Free, Love Spent, Girl Gone Wild and Gang Bang
14. Madame X - God Control is the only thing I have gone back to, but I will give it another chance post CII
15. Rebel Heart - people say there is a great album buried in here, and I will try to find it... but I literally took nothing from this era
