As I'm a few days away from doing One More Time 2000, here's a thread on the year.

What were your fave songs/ bands and pop culture moments of the year?

The night is this Saturday from 9pm if anyone wants to come (@Iguana and @Suomi have been before and can hopefully vouch for it being a fab night!)

In terms of my highlights:

I enjoyed the not quite B list boybands and girlbands of that year like Point Break and Madasun (NOT Girl Thing)

The dance music was cool (well Madison Avenue and thanks to Napster I was ultra cool in 2000 by listening to their second single Who The Hell Are You whilst Don't Call Me Baby was charting), and of course Darude was ultra cool with his screechy beeps.

Of course the big moment was Queen Victoria Beckham dragging David (oh and Dane) to every Virgin Megastore/ Woolworths/ Our Price/ HMV/ Andy's Records/ car boot sale that she could. She didn't stoop as low as ASDA though.
 
Oh and Brigitte Nielsen releasing some paffy dance single and appearing on Gloria Hunniford's talk show to promote it to a load of pensioners by miming (and not even bothering to have a microphone) then dragging a pensioner (in his old man coat) out the audience to dance with her. You just don't get that audience participation on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.
 
Weirdly I remember the first song I heard of the new millennium was Capwice’s “Once around the sun” :disco: I thought that was a good lyric at the time.

Christ even L*lu had a good single this year :o
 
2000 for me was Ibiza going mega mainstream with good and bad results. The saturation of dance music meant there was plenty to choose from but it also diluted some of the magic from the late 90s (you can’t have everything).

Spiller, Modjo, Sonique, Moloko, Bob Sinclar, Matt Darey, Laurent Garnier, Delirium, all huge.

Rodney Jerkins and Timbaland essentially killed 90s swing and I wasn’t loving the R&B direction but the explosion of neo soul was totally on my radar. New artists like Jill Scott and Angie Stone were all over my CD player.

Kylie’s comeback was cool and Madonna still doing her A-game thing. All Saints falling apart while still producing some of their best work. Anastasia making her mark.

Me moving to London as Daft Punk drop One More Time and Destiny’s Child go next level with Independent Women. Lucy Pearl, MJ Cole and Red Hot Chili
Peppers. Good times.

Delerium was a real highlight - surprised they never really had another proper hit. Though probably not being able to do the promo rounds with Sarah McLachlan and put some kind of face to it (even if said face would be changing) maybe didnt help.

To be fair it wasn’t really delirium’s song - they’re more of a world music band they remind me of Enigma

It was only when Tiesto remixed it that it went crazy

It’s one of the few songs back then that was popular in 2 seasons of Ibiza (huge in 2001 also). Back then the industry was quite snobby about moving on quickly and only playing fresh music. These days everything is remixed and repackaged and sampled. It was a real mainstayer for what felt like a long time.

True, their actual sound was never really showcased.
