Miley Cyrus ft. Dua Lipa - Prisoner

Why can't you just let me go?

The song is just ok. Miley obliterates Dua’s bland vocals as expected. The video is a piece of shit.

Must do better!

This is obviously great. Although the Prisoner bit sounds like the Deborah bit in Pulp's Disco 2000.

Love it, Miley is always reliable to deliver a few classics with each album.

I haven't watched the video and you've all persuaded me not to but on one listen the song is quite brilliant. I can't wait to be OBSESSED with this (circa 3pm)

also can't believe her album is out in ONE WEEK!

The verses and pre-chorus are so good, but the actual chorus is just...flat.

I’d also far rather if Miley sang the whole thing. Dua Lipa is sooo mediocre.

i actually like the brunette's addition, it accentuates Miley's iconicness.

Dua’s a funny one. This collaboration just highlights what she inherently lacks as a performer for me. Unfortunate to be paired with someone who reeks star quality.

It sounds to me like something people will be singing at karaoke in 20 years' time :emoji_crystal_ball:

And I don't particularly like either of them

Someone remind me of that post when the time comes and let's see how I did

The song is lacking a killer chorus for me.

The first chorus in particular felt like it took the wind right out of it, and the song is a bit Midnight Sky and a bit Physical but not as good as either.

That said it has grown on me already and it probably suffered from some quite high expectations.

The chorus of this reminds me of some other song (the melody), but I can't place my finger on it

Physical, physical, I wanna get physical?

Yes that's it! Thank you! I saw the reference to Physical earlier in this thread but I assumed the Dua song because she's featured

Prisoner is doing the job very nicely for me :disco: it's a less explosive song than Midnight Sky for sure but I do like the way it GLIDES!

I really like this. It's a solid pop song.

Dunno what "starpower" people see in Miley but ok.

Debuts at 5 on Spotify UK and 5 US, 11 global with 4m+ streams. Great start. Should be good for a top 10 debut in the UK and top 20 US.

It annoys me that US radio probably won't play this (like they didn't Midnight Sky) when she is clearly still popular and people actively seek out her music

I'm just glad they've given up chasing/waiting on that huge US smash and let her release the album knowing it'll do well enough there and also smash in the UK.

streaming figures with a week to go before album release week:
180m Midnight Sky
37m Heart of Glass (live)
4.4m Edge of Midnight (ft. Stevie Nicks)
~4.3m Prisoner (ft. Dua Lipa)
4m Zombie (live)

Those seem pretty good! She'll probably have at least a top 3 album here and number one in the UK so they should be happy with that

It's a cute moment for a playlist. Nothing to gag over. I much prefer Fever as far as dead-eyed Dua collabs go.

REALLY? I like both girls these days but I can objectively see a ton of star power in Miley, and absolutely nothing in Dua :D

she reminds me of Victoria Beckham - she can nail a look, has a bit of attitude for the gays, but is totally dead behind the eyes and moves like a robot. But she can at least sing :side-eye:

Thats the appeal (not that I find her dead behind the eyes, but that’s a winning combination)

straight in at #8 in the UK, giving both her and Dua simultaneous top 10s. :disco: also #5 in Ireland, #11 in Norway and #20 in Germany, outpeaking Midnight Sky in all 3.
