Nuts in May (Mike Leigh)

My Mike Leigh knowledge has some pretty big gaps, but inspired by Diane Morgan describing Roger Sloman's performance as one of the funniest of all time I sought it out.



Loved it. Even though it's over 50 years old I imagine anybody who's ever been dragged on a camping holiday would recognise aspects of this couple. Sloman's character in particular really is completely insufferable, but I like how in her own way, Candice Marie and her ever-present bobble hat is just as awful if not slightly moreso.

Also, I know it's a cliche that everybody looked older in the past, but agog that this was a 30 year old man in 1976!

This is one of his I haven’t seen - and I’ve seen a lot - but the 70s/80s stuff I know less of! Will give this a go!

I've never been able to watch it all of the way through without pausing several times for a CRINGE FIT

Sloman and Steadman both possibly doing the best work of their careers

Gave me a mortal fear of domestic holidays. 13/10.
