Absolutely beautiful outside. Lovely warm hazy autumn day.

Spent about 90 minutes on the garden, hopefully the final tidy before autumn/ winter hits.

Moopy I need advice.

Our building has been sold, which doesn't affect us as we own our flat.

But the owner is auctioning off some of the other flats in the building. In the info it says they're being sold with a tenant in situ, and I assume that's why the flats are cheap.

Anyway, one has sold and the new owner of the flat has met with the current tenants who have lived there for ten years, and told them she's kicking them out as she wants to move in.

Is that legal?! Because surely then everyone would buy flats with tenants in situ because they're cheap, and then kick them out?

Really 😮 I assumed they could only kick them out if they failed to pay rent or something. Otherwise surely everyone would buy cheap tenant flats? Actually maybe they do :(

Nope. You get 2 months protection even if you had a 10 year AST. Its wank.

Theoretically the new owner has to honour the contract of the previous owner I think, but I'm sure like Ron says in practice it doesn't work like that. I'd recommend the tenants to get in touch with Shelter or someone to see if they can advise. If nothing else they may be able to slow down the process so they can have a bit more time to find somewhere else.

Ooh I think they're seeing CAB tomorrow but would shelter be better?

This is your licence to completely irritate the incoming owner because you already know they're a prick.
:D definitely happy to try that! She already sounds like a bitch.

We're planning on putting ours up for sale soon anyway I think. Now we don't have heathcliff we can move anytime
