S13 E13: Henny, I Shrunk the Drag Queens

I think it’s all already been said, the challenge was awful but it was mostly because none of the queens had the good sense to try something a bit different, except for Symone, who you could see wanted to try something different but was in her head this week and gave it up to the always stubborn Kandy. Symone and Rosé saved themselves simply by being talented, as did Gottmik who handled a large role adequately. I think Kandy was fine in her part it was just OK. Olivia was just Olivia.

the runway looks were mostly great to fantastic but crucially threw up no surprises. Symone looked insane and should have won this week. I loved Rosé’s look but it was nowhere near As good as Symone’s. Gottmik was an easy 2nd on the runway, Symone and Gottmik are the best of the season on the runway and two of the best ever IMO.

still don’t get the hate for Kandy, I think she shouldn’t be in the top 4 but the choice was between her and Olivia and neither of them should have been too 5 but that’s how it ended up. If anything Olivia has annoyed me more this season, she seems lovely and I normally warm to the humble ones in a competition but her lack of self awareness and inability to grow or progress was just so frustrating.

righr decision this week. Downside is that next week is a bit predictable - barring a major twist there’s no way Kandy can beat any of them into the Top 3. Having someone like Utica in the top 4 could have at least given us a last gasp guess but realistically it was always this final 3.
 
As for the final, I think it’s between Gottmik and Symone. Rosé did a great job catching up with these two but I still see her as an outsider for the win.

It’ll probably be Gottmik which is fine I guess, but I never really warmed up to her or the whiny LA queen personality.
 
Mmm.. well that was a thing that happened. The least extravagant extravaganza so far :D All that green screen just to be in the Werkroom? What a hopeless script.

Anyway, I can't argue with anything that happened. Rosé got that win, Olivia and Kandy just didn't do it, and it really was Olivia's time. Boooooring.

I agree it was a weird time to critique people for playing to type when Kandy was being Kandy (on an off day), Olivia was being Olivia, Gottmik was being whiney Valley girl, and Symone was doing the Fac'Tri voice again. Rosé was the only one going for it.

I can't say I was living for the runways, Symone's was an idea but the colours were just dull and wasn't that the awful wig Bob the Drag Queen's been putting on her channel recently? GottMik probably won the runway.
 
So...
1. Rosé - Perched for her now, if Symone really is levelling off. TBH I think there's not a chance in hell they'll let her win, she's not on Ru's favourite list. Anyway I love her going in and being ready to look like a monster. She's quite blunt in Untucked but I don't really see malicious intent.

2. GottMik - The vocal fry is a bit of a go-to for her, but she IS funny, and I've enjoyed her runways a lot more recently, especially tonight. I feel it's leagues more interesting than that weird Bag Ball crap. I'm excited that she's finding new talents, I guess there's shades of Trinity Taylor's story there. But she it was a bit of a :eyes: when she (rightly) critiqued Olivia for picking a safe character, when she did the same thing.

3. Symone - At this point I'm acknowledging that she's really good based on what's gone before. But it's been a little while since I've seen a definitive A-Ha moment, the self-doubt really is threatening the whole thing now. i DO think she's basically got the crown in the bag because Ru loves her so much - I mean Lawrence felt a LOT less deserving of the win and see how that favouritism panned out. That self-defeating moment when the roles were given out was just a warning sign TBH.

4. Kandy - I'm a LOT more at peace with her being in the top 4 than I was with Eureka, Vanjie, Silky etc getting their passes. She's a lot more likable than she came across as at the start of the season, for sure. It was weird how she went for that role but just didn't do anything with it. As far as the lipsync went, it was pretty even, and she had a lot more hunger for it. And surprised as I am to gun for her, I'm more interested in what she'll bring for the rest of the contest than Olivia.

5. Olivia - I think the writing has been on the wall for some weeks now, and she really did seem checked out this time. It's a shame, but I think she'll do fine, and there's always that Miss Congeniality money. She looked great on the runway though!
 
Some of the critiques were ODD though :D
to Kandy - "You were just playing you"
to Olivia - "There were no peaks and troughs, you needed to make it a big character"
but then to Symone - "It was great, you were convincing as a normal person"

Was it supposed to be drag queen sci-fi camp nonsense, or a biopic?
 
I don’t understand, there must be a million writers living in LA, why can’t they find a good one to write these scripts? No one’s expecting IBSEN but they don’t even reach the heady heights of inadequate.
 
Has anyone mentioned how Symone was FULLY BALD during the confessional where she cried, and had much more hair in all the others? I wonder how many weeks they'd been holding onto it :D

Whew Denali really was fucked over by the show eh? Deffo one of the most undeserving eliminations of recent seasons, and looking back across the cast probably the queen that most deserved to be in the top 4 over Kandy.

But I guess Denali being eliminated really benefitted Rose, and I'm now seeing loads of Rose to win posts on Instagram? Is she suddenly FAN FAVOURITE? She doesn't strike me as much more than a competent Drag Race competitor with some VERY dubious runways TBH.

If we are talking winners Gotmikk is the obvious choice if looking through the lens of who is most likely to be the Drag Race Superstar. She's clearly going to clean up as a TikTok and YouTube queen if she isn't my already. Seymone is my favourite of course, but it really feels like she has a KILLER All Stars run waiting for her in future.

I loved Gotmikk's runway this week too. It really told a STORY!

Olivia was probably the right person to go, but Kandy was very close to her. The other 3... nothing to divide them really and should be the final 3. I probably thought Gottmik deserved the win this week, just because I loved her look.

I actually thought the lip sync was average at best. It is possibly in the top 5 songs you could possibly lipsync to and really they didn't show the capabilities of it.
 
Also agree the Scarlett section was utterly pointless. I really don't understand why these episodes all need to be an hour long. Some of them would work much better at 45.

The workroom chatter is becoming unbearable for me. It's forced as fuck and the same every damn season.
 
As for the programme length, I agree that felt a bit spun out. But having said that, I’ve been rewatching seasons 2 & 3 recently, and it’s really striking how fast they get through everything, the quick editing is really apparent. It feels a bit rushed sometimes.

mind you I guess there aren’t many queens left so it’s going to feel a bit stretched. At the start of the season we often comment that we can’t remember anyone
 
That runway hair was sort of thing you find from a SMIFFY'S wig.

TERRIBLE.
