Sam Fender - album #3 "People Watching"

Largely thanks to the constant arena and now stadium touring I imagine. Great result for him.

I’m surprised the second album only slightly outpaced the first. It felt like it was massive straight out of the gate, but maybe that’s a false memory because of what came after.

I think the second album was released before the title track broke through and went top ten. So if anything he was lucky to have a bigger number on his second album at that point

The previously vinyl only Tyrants:

This should have been on the album. I guess it probably will be via a deluxe at some point.

He's very generous with his deluxes (I think we got about 5 new songs last time) so I'm really looking forward to that.

Oh My. It entered the bottom of the chart last week and then got added to radio but I didn't think it was going to smash like this.

Olivia Dean is having quite the year, her new single has gone Top 20 and her version of jazz-pop is not what I'd expect to see storming up the chart.

IT’S HAPPENING! Potential deluxe incoming

Based on the chatter it looks like the friend he’s talking about is Elton John. Mercifully, piano only it looks like…

Deluxe already confirmed. Out 5th December

1. I’m Always on Stage
2. Talk to you (ft. ?????)
3. Fortuna’s Wheel
4. Rein Me In (with Olivia Dean)
5. Me and The Dog
6. Tyrants
7. The Treadmill
8. Empty Spaces

Talk To You is

- Straight to Radio 1 A list
- Tune Of The Weekend
- Straight to Radio 2 A list
- Song of the Week

I wonder if another Top 10 is on the cards.

Elton John must surely hold the record for pensioners being playlisted on R1

What are people thinking of this new single with Elton John? I don't really know much about him but may explore the ALBAM after the Mercury prize and Funky fawning

Elton getting an & credit for some light tinkling.

I like the song though. It is another one with prominent female backing vocals and they are a good dynamic for him.

The Elton John duet seems to have already BEEN AND GONE

But Rein Me In has turned into quite a chunky hit. In its 22nd week in the top 20, and it's climbed back up to #7.

Fender is of course VERY DESERVING of all and any success, but he really played an absolute blinder snatching Olivia Dean just before she mega exploded. What an A&R guy.

It is a North Shields/South Shields deluxe day:

Very good too, even if Sam's only has two new songs on.

Well it’s four new songs but two were released already :D the two unheard ones are both great!

Yes it is a generous deluxe but just the two properly new songs. Good to have a mop up of the EP and other odd tracks though.

And Tyrants in particular deserves a little more light on it.

I’m Always On Stage is QUITE special but much like some of his other slower ones, I have to be in the mood for it.

35 weeks into its top 40 run, and Rein Me In is now UK #1.

Obviously owing a lot to Olivia Dean being the darling of the moment, but nonetheless an incredible result for Mr Fender.

Men-with-guitars aren't exactly a minority, but they haven't been singles shart toppers for aeons.
