That Disclosure song and the Bond theme are the only ones I'm really familiar with other than these recent ones. His voice is fine - I've heard worse but I wouldn't call it the second coming of Sam Cooke.

The general aversion to Sam Smith is quite interesting and seems to boil down to lots of different factors:

- Bland/shit first album
- Bland/shit in general
- Too fat
- Too ugly
- Not gay in the right way
- That Oscars speech

The first album passed me by and what I heard of it didn't interest me at all. Credit where it's due though, this recent stuff is excellent.

I'd agree with the majority of that and his Adele like numbers doing Adele like music that was utterly inescapable. Couldn't stand any of it but this latest batch is a right treat.

Like you I'm all about this sleek shiny dance-pop iteration of Sam Smith, but I have to say I'm Not The Only One is his masterpiece to date
