Seventh albums

I would slightly challenge whether So Real and I Wanna Be With You are separate albums for queen Mandy.

Anyway @funky you’d probably like her now. She’s more Sheryl than Britney these days.

I Wanna Be With You was mostly new which is why I included it
 
I'll do the Gabrielle one obviously. Easily her worst album.

What a fun thread. I think the top choice for me is either Blonde on Blonde or In Rainbows or Beggars Banquet or Achtung Baby or Born in the U.S.A. but I'll be damned if I know which. Gut says either Dylan or the Stones, head says Radiohead, ass says Springsteen. But all of those have better records imo, whereas Achtung Baby is the best from they-who-shan't-be-named. 🤷

I prefer Zooropa. They absolutely lost themselves on that album, had no time to second guess and it was to their artistic benefit.

I have much love for Zooropa too, but sans re-listen I recall the quality dipping dramatically after daddy paid for my crashed car (tho tbf there ain't anywhere to go but down after aha-shala! :disco: ). I'm with you for the most part however: the first six tracks = a sublime indulgence of all the idiosyncrasies that made them so compelling during this era, and it's home to what's likely my fave song of theirs nowadays in 'Stay (Faraway, So Close!)'. Which, yes, is probably the least interesting thing on the record, but at this point I'm 100% convinced that that stupid asshat Bono somehow peered into a crystal ball and actually foresaw my existence play out in full panavision so what the fuck is a boy meant to do! :(

I give Achtung Baby the edge because it maintains a superb base level from beginning to end imo, which is not sth I can say for any of their other albums. But my heart will always be more receptive to those that pick Zooropa or even Pop (underrated, the last glimpse of their boho experimentalism, and when it hits it really fucking hits). Not sure that anyone opting for the latter exists, mind! Ha! Anyway, it's a shame that this band ceased to exist come the year 2000.

Btw while I have your attention octophone, I saw some wild thread some time back which suggested yourself (and dear @funky and @GinAg ) had left, and I feel no shame in saying that my own interest in this forum lessened vastly thereafter. Thread appears to have disappeared as does GinAg who I can't tag, but I'm glad two of the others who've provided my warmest interactions here have returned. If you can make some permadrunk stranger on the other side of the world want to pop into spaces where he doesn't belong every now and again just to see if you've contributed anything, you gotta be doing sth right. Stay well, eh. x

'Stay (Faraway, So Close!)' is probably my desert island U2 song. That or 'All I Want Is You'.

I won't lie, I did feel like I was done here for a few days before realising that I was throwing the proverbial baby out with the rather less proverbial bathwater. I get overwhelmed at times and my instinct is often to just fuck everything off and, funnily enough, this never actually helps. Thank you, you warmed my aging cockles with that.
