When Ming was at Glasgow Uni, he had a night job as a bouncer at the Queen Margaret Union. One evening, my mother rocked up with 2 of her pals - Ming adjudged all 3 to be drunk and refused them entry. My mum, who genuinely hadn't had a drop, was absolutely AFFRONTED. She didn't hold it against him but it's probably just as well she didn;t live to see him leading the Lib Dems.
RIP Ming. I liked you anyway.
