OMG best #1 of the 90's evah!

Well not really but I do love this very very much indeed. I was too young to remember it at the time (Although it's always been an airplay staple so I've always been aware of it) but I imagine it must have kind of come out of nowhere to go to #1? It certainly doesn't sound like your typical two-week #1 smash hit.

It's a shame Tasmin's career kind of faltered after this. The album this comes from is really really good too, although the followup is a tad too downbeat and one-paced. (Certainly not one of the worst albums EVER as I think Ellie has claimed though! :D )

Still, I'm sure residual airplay from this alone keeps her comfortable, whatever it is she's doing now.

I just looked at her official website, saw she had a forum and got a bit excited. Except

Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later.

Oh well.

Love this though. And I quite liked all the singles off the first album, but strangely never feel the need to play it.

10 Sleeping Satellite
07 Arienne
10 Lords of the New Church
09 When It Comes Down To It
10 Steeltown
05 The Higher You Climb
10 In Your Care
10 Somebody's Daughter
09 Hero
08 Ripped Inside
09 Halfway to Heaven

no, i'm not joking....

When It Comes Down To It is probably my favourite. But it's all good.

I even like blandy pandy old Arienne.

Except when drunken Swedes are massacring it when I'm trying to sleep. :Oi:

Good but dated

She was compared to Chrissie Hynde of all people at the time. Similar tone

Totally having a revival to this today. I do still enjoy the Great Expectations album a lot.

I love a bit of 90s black woman singing white music MOR pop

Tasmin Archer, Gabrielle, Des'ree, Billie Myers... YES PLEASE!

Sleeping Satellite is AMAZE. The "WOAH-WOAH-OH-OH YEAH YEAH"-ing is possibly one of my favourite individual little bits in a song.

This is one of those songs I pathologically DESPISE.

Was she a lesbian? She fucking sounded like ONE.

On the previous forum I posted on, they actually got TASMIN ARCHER to come in to do a Q+A session. She obviously wasn't busy.

The admin was a bit of a ROYAL LOON and subsequently bombarded her with remixes of her own work, which she sorta had to bat away tactfully - probably in fear of her life. He even did his own wikipedia page about HIMSELF (on his user profile) where he puts her under his "FAMOUS FRIENDS" section. He's since deleted it, but the good thing about wikipedia is that it keeps all previous versions of a page :D

Fuller performed his first concert to welcome friend Penny to her new apartment, in a kitchen on the University Of Essex campus. He sung "Lily Your Dress Needs A Wash", "Queen Liz", "X Equals Y" and "Charlie G".

In early 2007, he re-recorded a few of his parodies. The current tracklisting is as follows:

1. Queen Liz
2. Let's Name This Song Something Totally Weird And/Or Stupidly Long, Cos It's Cool
3. Charlie G
4. Donna, Is Your Head Okay
5. Robyn's Got No Clothes
6. Lily Your Dress Needs A Wash
7. X Equals Y
8. Never Let Morrissey Die
9. Crabs Like Tee (Don't Cha)
10. Bigger Than Michelle McManus - featuring Microsoft Sam
11. Hello (It Ain't 1982)
12. Crackerbean's Melody
13. Jess Might Try To Murder You
14. I Fancy A Roast Dinner
15. Grumpy Old Man
16. Super Rock Saved The Day

Sounds like a HOOT!

I've heard about half of those myself. Some of those titles I've not heard before. Jess is his ex gf :D Then he went gay.

I love how his first "gig" was mincing about to an audience of one in the kitchen of his student digs. :D

Bloom IS most definitely one of the worst albums ever. I actually threw it in the bin.

Why exactly?

I like it. It's nothing amazing and a bit dreary in places but there's some lovely moody stuff on there. "One More Good Night With The Boys" and "In Your Garden" are great.

I never connected with this at the time, but I've been REALLY enjoying the Extended Mix of this at the moment...

And for some reason I used to confuse it with Janet's Again.

The law of ENTROPY means that everything SINKS to its PROPER LEVEL in the end

That's odd this thread hasn't been replied to since 2017, haha.
Anyway here's a cool 2025 remix :disco: 🎵

A 10 of course 😊
I think I only discovered Tasmin in 2022 (a case like Maggie Reilly and Moonlight Shadow; I'd known the song for ages but hadn't explored the artist's works). I like all the versions, quite happy with the main one, and acoustic:

Special mention to my favourite of her new non-single tracks, Madame Joy (around 2:03 the instrumental reminds me of Sleeping Satellite ♡)

🤗 🎶

Oh this is glorious - I love Tasmin Archer! In your care was even better!

She should go up in one of those Amazon rockets - she’d love that - should have taken her up instead of Katy Perry.
