Dinner as the midday meal was quite common when I lived in Norfolk too.

Sorry for bringing in other languages into the discussion but it is strange that the word for dinner in Swedish (middag) literally means mid-day. Maybe Swedes too used to say dinner about lunch before the world became more americanised. (I’ll have to look it up)

Yes "Mittag" is/used to be the same here.

Dinner/Tea is "Abendessen/Abendbrot" which translates as "evening meal" / "evening bread" - even if it wasn't just bread.

Lunch and Dinner. But Tea I’d use interchangeably with Dinner.

I wouldn’t refer to Lunch ever as Dinner, but I’d understand if it was perhaps an older person or the context in how it was said.

The only person I’ve heard refer to dinner as “supper” is Nigella Lawson.

Well, she's always dropping recipes for things like bread pudding and fish pie. Very Victorian-coded.
