I've just been reminded from other corners of the Internet that the first trailer was very Galaxy heavy. So maybe they start down in Odyssey levels or visit there as planets.

This was alot of fun. Nowhere near as good as the first but still a good watch and doesn't outstay it's welcome.

I’ve said this to friends and they all agree with me: what we really need is a MARIO KART movie done Cannonball Run style - a race from one end of the galaxy to the other. The possibilities

I thought this was very good. I'm even more bewildered by the negative reviews than I was before. I'd say it marginally improves on the first film and that the nods to the games is done masterfully in places (particular scream at the low frames per second for a particular character). Was tempted to score it higher. There's no way the younger target audience won't enjoy this. Should be another hit - it has so far matched the original launch aligned anyway, tracking slightly lower in the US and higher in Europe.

I think the problem the reviews had was it was ONLY just nods to the games

Yeah, I just didn't really get that it was some kind of easter egg overload. The part where I felt it drew from the games most was done well (Boweser Jr playing against them - that's not a spoiler, but you'll know what I mean if you see it). The story is thin (and I'm wondering what similar film really delivers what is seemingly missing here), but we also get a Rosalina origins story (although I didn't really take to it) and it twists expectations enough to get away with it. There are some decent jokes and it never lags ever. I wonder if I'd like the Sonic movies better (which have reviewed a lot better) as they don't appeal at all to me. Although, just to reign it in a bit - I gave it a 7
