To be fair to the old goat, aside from the dreadful Magisk Stjärna she's written some corkers. I'm currently very fond of Långt Härifrån

I'm not really loving Jag kommer hem till Jul either. It's nice enough but absolutely nothing to get excited over. I'm disappointed in the Sanna Christmas single too. Feeling a bit OVAH Sweden at the moment.
 
I don't know how I went for six months without listening to this. But I must declare that Tabu (the song) is :disco:. I listened to their two albums back to back and definitely prefer this one!

Just a random bump to say that this album remains OFF THE CHAIN. It may be my favourite Swedish record since the glory days of Lena 'n' Shirl. :disco:

As John mentioned, EVERY SONG is basically "lalalalala *chorus title* lalalalalalala" and that's FINE BY ME :disco:

Tabu and Hogre are 13/10 force-10 wind machine moments if EVER I heard them.

I only have the title track, which I bought when their album came up on iTunes as a "what other people have bought" recommendation. Seems like I must go back and get the rest if it's just as good (on first listen the title track was the only one that seemed utterly irresistible).
 
Oh it's rather excellent and a perfect summer spin. There's plenty more to it than just the title track

It's errs a little too much to the side of fluff to change your life but it's certainly LOADSA FUN.
 
Still loving these BITCHES! Perfect summery album. I hope they'll be back next year with a new album at some point.
 
I do hope they come back too. I fear they've had their two shots now - and with the second doing less well than the first, I wonder if they'd even get back into the lineup for MF, especially with the powers that be seemingly determined to suck all of the joy out of it forevermore. :(

They seem fairly popular with the KIDZ though, so hopefully...

Well the album got to #2, so I don't think it was THAT much of a FLOP, was it?

I'm just listening to the album RIGHT NOW. God so MANY tunes - my current favourite is Adrenalin. :disco:
 
Oh I haven't listened to this album for a long time. Best non-English album I own without a doubt (do I even own any others? Not that that matters). I might have to bring it out again for this weather.

Glod and Het are so damn powerful! :disco:
 
Without getting my patronising hat on but if this is the best non-English album in anyone's collection then I feel nothing but PITY for them.

Not that it isn't a good bit of fun - I'm not gonna deny that.
 
Well, having had a scan through, it's one of two, and the other one (Elisa's - Det Sa Klick) I only got on a whim and it isn't that good. So that statement's pretty much by default.
 
Top ten foreign language albums would be quite interesting. Doubtless I'd forget something obvious but off the top of my head...

Looking at that Top 10 VoR really suggests to me that you need a bit of Rosenstolz in your life - Das große Leben very much in particular.
 
Whilst I quite LIKED the odd Rosenstolz single ("Ich Komm An Dir Nicht Weiter" and "Aus Liebe Wollt' Ich Alles Wissen" being personal highlights) I usually found them a LITTLE SAPPY lyrically but they always had a good ear for a pop melody.

I know they're not exactly universally beloved in German speaking terriotiries (some of my Austrian friends hate them!) but you're absolutely right that they do have an ear for a killer tune.

Lyrically, I think they're anything but sappy. Often acerbic, regularly cynical - it's a rather dark world view they present, which I do really love.

I just felt the sarcasm and cynical streak got lost during the second (and commercially uber-successful) half of their career.

The band that released "Ich Bin Ich (Wir Sind Wir)/Ich Geh' In Flammen Auf" was quite certainly not the same which released the iconic "Die Schlampen Sind Müde".

Funny you should mention that as I've always found "Das bin ich, das bin ich/Das allein ist meine Schuld" to be a pretty FUCK YOU lyric :D
 
It's bizarre, isn't it? I find that whole song to be one of their biggest pieces of DRIVEL both lyrically and sonically. :D

10.0 Glöd - now I LOVE me some Stormande hav but DEAR LORD WHY WAS THIS NOT THEIR MELODIFESTIVALEN ENTRY. You can almost FEEL the WIND MACHINE when the key change OBLITERATES ALL KNOWN LIFE (in the vicinity of Andreas Johnson's townhouse in Greater Uppsala)

Fabulous review Penny, however, Adrenalin is probably my favourite track on the album! :D Horses for courses I suppose...
 
I enjoy it but it doesn't SOAR like the others. I mean half the key changes on this album could RAISE THE DEAD so it's no bad thing that Adrenalin can't quite compete :D

I haven't heard any rumours that they're back in MF 2014, fingers crossed though, it's about time we got a new album from them!
 
So far it seems unlikely that they'll be back in MF 2014. Timoteij is my fab favourite Swedish band but I have a bad feeling that returning to MF this soon will hurt their somewhat flagging career. Curse of Sarek anybody?
 
Well they're very much at the mercy of their producers if we're being fair - it's not like the four of them have a hand in the tunes.

People want more of the same and/or something radically different, so they really can't win either way.
