pandora came on randomly today, it was always the weakest the link for me, but by god it's one of my favourites these days

10 Spark
09 Cruel
10 Black-Dove (January)
10 Raspberry Swirl
08 Jackie's Strength
08 i i e e e
10 Liquid Diamonds
09 She's Your Cocaine

Exactly the same for me am. A real treasured album from my past. My dad loved it too. He's as passionate about music as me, but we don't like an awful lot of the same stuff, so it's a real treat to find something we both adore.

10 Spark
08 Cruel
09 Black-Dove (January)
11 Raspberry Swirl
09 Jackie's Strength
07 i i e e e
09 Liquid Diamonds
10 She's Your Cocaine

Truly her greatest album. The subsequent descent into bland repetition and plastic-facedness has been so tragic. I squarely blame HUSBAND.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

There's not much I can say about this album that hasn't already been said, but yes, absolutely brilliant and her last truly great album.

Pandora.

Yes, it's her last great album. I'll agree with THAT MUCH

The first 4 are so great that depending on my mood my favourite changes quite often. Although it is rarely ever Under the Pink to be honest.

I'd say TODAY my favourite album of hers is Little Earthquakes. :o

"Under The Pink" normally IS my favourite

But lately it's been "Little Earthquakes" too...

It's funny because Boys for Pele was always my favourite. But I think I have outgrown it, as much as it pains me to admit it. I can now recognise that it's not flawless from start to finish. Still, whenever I do play it (which is not nearly as often as I used to, say, ten years ago) I never skip a single song.

*Bumperoo*

I was already starting to lose patience with her by this point but there are a few real gems on here, offset with a couple of clunkers (Playboy Mommy, Cocaine). Overall, it's the weakest of the first 4 albums for me, though clearly head and shoulders above what was to follow.

Under The Pink remains my unchallenged favourite, followed by Boys and then Earthquakes.

Lovely, the first half overshadows a bit but it's certainly a quantum leap from Boys of Pele which I could NOT BEAR

My favourite Tori album I think, followed by American Doll Posse (:shy:) and .. maybe Scarlet's Walk

i just listened to venus and back the other night and remembered how much i used to love this woman
we were joking with a friend how were worried she hasn't had a new album in the last couple of months and suddenly it occurred to me she's only released AGP since the beekeeper (and that christmas album)

it definitely felt like she's had 5 (all mediocre too)

AGP? Do you mean ADP?

And you're forgetting Abnormally Attracted To Sin...

i did and i did :o
i don't even remember a single song from AATS?

Err... Welcome To England was a bit shit but I really liked 500 Miles and .... erm... The title track (phew!)

i loved AATS :( i just think it was written off so easily because of what she has become now.

I liked it too but honestly it just doesn't hold up to any of her previous work (The Beekeper aside)

Honestly every album since Scarlet's Walk can be shoved right into the bin as far as I'm concerned. There's not even a decent ten track album between all of them.

I still can't figure out how she lost it on such a massive scale. Unless she was never that great to begin with, and I was only into her then because I was young and naive. But I'd rather not do that because it'll be too painful to make that realisation.

So far i've only enjoyed this and Little Earthquakes, because of all the negativity around her these days i only venture into a new album every six months or so.

Sidenote: i once went on a date with a guy who was a Tori loon, he had a shrine for her in his room. We never went on a second date :(

I'm having a proper banshee-spazout moment to "Spark" this morning with my morning coffee, looking into the distance dramatically in my kitchen (with a sideways tilt to my head, bien sur) and having a mini banshee-esque internal breakdown.

Say you don't want it
This CIRCUS we're in
But you DON'T
DON'T really mean it

:(

Was listening to this album on the way to work this morning and now the thread's been bumped. Spooky!

Reading the Wikipedia page threw up a name I'd long forgotten in the critical reception section. It's not a paticularly nice way of complimenting the album:

The kookiness isn't dominant, she's stopped the attention-seeking lyrics almost completely and, yes, her pianos don't try to be guitars too often," enthused John Aizlewood in Q.

And then I see the name, and I instantly remember this is the guy who, in a published article in Q magazine, boasts about hiring a prostitute whilst on a trip interviewing whatever band it was. How that even got to print. I wonder what band he was trying to ingratiate himself with - they must have been really cool.

Oh my.

Well the opening 5 are all 10s. As is Hotel. Not sure I'd rate the others as highly in my more grounded 2026 state of hallucinogenics.
