Will Young - Falling Deep

This one is great too.

The rest is just there but I'll listen to it again properly at some point

I’m happy to say that Light it up is by far my least favourite on this, the rest sounds much better than expected. On first listen it all sounds great

Feels Just Like A Win and Everything But You are definitely the two standouts and I am also enjoying Me Without You and Talk About It.

I do think that Feels Just Like A Win has, ahem, echoes of Jealousy, maybe that counted it out of single contention.

Light It Up remains the low point, and I Won’t Let You Down would have been fine for a live lounge or one of those Spotify Singles but not sure it is needed on the album. Otherwise it is decent to very good.

The Worst is the track on the NMF playlists and has been given an eye straining video:

I'm more immediately drawn to the electronic productions but his voice sounds great on this. 'Overthinking' feels like one of the most overused words in current pop though.

But there’s liking certain genres and there’s the artists just being more comfortable in certain lanes. I mean you’d think he would be suited to cod soul radio 2 fodder but the songs on the album that don’t work, don’t work because he sounds bored and uncomfortable. The electronic ones particularly the one I posted last night his voice sounds wonderful - it’s not just the production. Same with the Echoes album - everything just came together like magic!

I do think it is notable that the very best songs on the album were made with previous collaborators.

Album charted at 5 in the end, which is one up on the last GH and two places below the covers album. BMG don't seem to have been able to dramatically improve his chart fortunes here.

I'd love to know how many of the streams he does get are intentional. Spotify is foisting him on me all the time, no matter how many times I've told it I'm not interested.

It's made me grow to actively dislike Falling Deep.

He's done ZERO promo though hasn't he, apart from the typically good music videos.

I've shifted to Everything But You being THE song from the album now, but really pleased that the album has at least 4 good songs, not including the 3 'singles' which were somewhere between decent and disappointing.

He did Loose Women at least. And a fair bit of radio.

Midnights was a nice grat track. They tried to go a bit broader with the two proper pre-release singles, but his old audience is not coming back and Light It Up was actively off-putting to me. I think sophisticated emotopop (trademark Kylie Minogue) is his lane now.

The Jamie Laing interview is really really good, I do have a lot of time for Will.

I do love Will Youngs music, he's one of the few male vocalists I go back to/am a fan of. I'd like to see him live actually.

I haven't listened to this yet. I didn't like either of the pre-launch "singles", and heard a third song in the car the other day which was equally poor.

I generally really enjoy his music (certainly more than his books :zombie:), so I hope there are some hidden gems waiting for me.

Good chance you’ll enjoy. Most of us found the singles lackluster, the album has much more to offer

I find Jamie Laing's interview style a bit simpering, but he does get good stuff out of his guests. The Shania Twain one was really interesting too.

Well this album turned out to be bloody brilliant. The singles (apart from Midnight which I quite like) are all very Fun For Loose Women so I understand why they were chosen, but they're nothing like the rest of the album.

07 Falling Deep
05 Light It Up
10 Feels Just Like A Win
08 Midnight
07 Me Without You
06 The Worst
08 No Man's Land
09 Talk About It
11 Everything But You
08 I Won't Let You Down

Everything But You coming for that SOTY crown!
