Winter Solstice Saturday

I need to brave a big supermarket by Monday. I wonder what day and time will be least horrific?

Did Aldi. Was busy but not intolerably so. £100 mind and we've probably got enough for a family.
 
It certainly helps me try to stay positive, knowing that sunset is getting further away each day. I have a little tracker on my phone where I can see the days extending.
 
I took @Sheena Baby 's advice and got a new sad light. It may just be placebo effect, but my energy levels have been considerably improved and the morning anxiety has subsided. I happily took all the work I could last week.

Although January and February is the worst for me, now I'm older.
 
Yes, January is the worst. That's why I try to focus on little things like daylight. By February you can see things like daffodils coming on, and around these parts af least, early morning birdsong. In January I need something to focus on to remind me we've turned a corner. By February, I can feel it.
 
January definitely needs something to keep you going. Because of a 4 week pay cycle, we're getting paid twice in January; on the 3rd and the 31st. That's a help. But yes, I'm looking for a mini-project for January, maybe something music related - A Fall album every day with a mini review on Bluesky is one thought.
 
I've got a kettlebell challenge to do in Jan to give me something to do other than moan about how wank winter is. I can moan about how tired I am instead.
 
Well I finally (half) conquered my fear of ladders today. I've cleared all of the leaves out of the gutter on the extension and unblocked the downspout. After my initial terror climbing up the ladder to the top rung I really enjoyed getting the manky, minging black stuff and leaves out, although the smell was horrific. Mr F caught me doing it and had a mental because I could have fallen off and nobody would have known, I argued that a fall of ten feet would be unlikely to be fatal and it was really only four and a half feet because I'm five feet six tall.

If it stops the rain coming down the inside of the back door when it rains hard it'll have been worth it, but I suspect I probably need a roofer.

It's great help, since 1980 everyone used to get paid twice in December here to boost Xmas spending, the second salary was called the Xmas present, but IMF cancelled it for everyone working in the public sector in 2012.
 
I went to Asda. Wouldn't be my first choice, but I've been saving the points all year. Managed to get all my Christmas meats :ken: and picky bits from the £80 odd I had saved, plus a couple of smaller children's presents as well.

It was busy, but not unbearably so.
 
I got EVERYTHING done including making BEEF SHALLOT AND RED WINE PIE FILLING and BRAISED RED CABBAGE in time to watch WHAT'S UP DOC so GO ME!
 
serving mashed potatoes and dauphinoise together at dinner was divine :disco:

I recognise the name but don’t recall them as they seem to have posted in the time I wasn’t active for quite a few years. Hopefully you have all had the best day!
