Slantmagazine think so... Although their writeup does typically overintellectualise what is just essentially a clever visual trick.

1. Kylie Minogue, "Come Into My World" (Michel Gondry)
Ballsily referencing Zbigniew Rybczynski's Oscar-winning masterpiece Tango, Michel Gondry's equally fantastic clip for Kylie Minogue's "Come Into My World" is an invitation to existential discourse. Not quite as slapsticky, I think, as Armond White has heralded, it is most definitely a remarkable deconstruction of artistic identity and technique. The choreographic precision of the clip is dazzling, with Kylie multiplying on screen in unison as one more buttery, Minnie Moused version of herself springs forth from her being on the song's seductive chorus. As in Rybczynski's innovative short film, the subject is the negotiation of space but also a consideration of how the self is refracted through media. EG

I think it was quite a good concept but they could have come up with a semi interesting narrative.
 
The person who wrote the write up almost certainly wears stupid glasses.
 
I really don't like it when people over intellectualise things that are essentially pop culture. It just sucks the joy out of it.

They are terribly pedantic, aren't they. :D

Although I love reading some of their reviews, Slant Magazine is very puzzling. They slate harmless fluff like The Blind Side or Vanessa William's most recent album but name Paula Abdul's Spellbound as one of the best pop albums of all time with an over analyzed and wordy review.

The "Come Into My World" video is good, I see the merit behind it but she's done far better, same with the directer. "Can't Get You Out of My Head", on the other hand, now that's an astonishingly great pop video.
 
I don't think CGYOOMH is the most INTERESTING video of all time. But it's fucking iconic and a better video than CIMW.
 
Well interesting in what way? IMO, interesting doesn't necessarily equal the best music video. And "interesting" certainly isn't the reason I love it so much.

I like a dissection of WHY something is great, but I think the explanation should keep in tone with what the original product is. So, let's not beat the thesaurus to a bloody pulp just to explain why we like a Kylie Minogue video.

Oh, I couldn't give a fat rat's about the story. It's a brilliant little short that repays watching again and again and is really quite clever in its own little way. Plus it makes me want to get on the train to Paris every time I see it.
 
all I'm saying is, there are different variables that make THE BEST VIDEO OF THE DECADE and having one major plus point (and it is pretty major to be fair) is not enough IMO

I think it's brilliant, but it's not even HER best video, let alone anyone else's...

By the same token, just because it's by token shouldn't mean that it isn't worthy or more in depth discussion. Sure, this goes a bit OTT but a lot of critical analysis does - that's the fun of it.

Now there's an excellent question! This is absolutely up there for me. I was waxing lyrical about it last time it came on when I was in the Kazbar :disco:
 
I liked Minogue's UTILITY bag in the video.

The video with any worth, in my opinion, is the Love At First Sight one. One of the few times where she appears to be enjoying herself.

Absolutely. It was the first time she'd looked like she was enjoying herself since Better The Devil You Know.
 
How ridiculous. It is a mildly clever, but essentially rather dull video. It was the least visually exciting of the campaign.

I thought "Slow" was an AWFUL video at the time but now, like the song I guess, I get it a LOT LOT MORE.

Back to the discussion in hand, and I have to say I love "Come Into My World" as a video, but it doesn't hold a CANDLE to "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" as many have said on here. The word "Iconic" gets bandied about a lot, and I don't even think it's her most iconic video, but it's the perfect marriage of sound and vision- it looks expensive, classy, it contains iconic looks (which I think is a different thing) and at the time it was fresh and very much a "much see"...

I think "Love At First Sight" is the worst video from the campaign, it feels like a cheap CGYOOMH retread in places...
 
Forget about the fact that it's a Kylie video or that it lacks a 'story' (do any pop promos really have that much substance, I mean REALLY?) because in my opinion "Come Into My World" IS her best video mainly cos the thought process behind the technical apects of the film (which has nothing to do with Kylie) is fantastic.

For fuck's sake, it is all just one single looped take. You know how difficult that is to film let alone choreograph? There's little to no green screen work (although Gondy most likely used some green screening work for background actions but that is ancillary to the main effect set) for the principle shot - it's all motion controlled camera, rotoscoping and morphing combined with precision choreography. It's brilliant.

That it happens to work well with the repetitive nature of the song is no doubt down to Michel Gondry's genius.

She'll never again make a video as good, or work with a director as talented.

I like the idea of it but for me it was the most boring video of the whole Fever project, including In Your Eyes
 
Anyone who thinks Fever is called Forever doesn't get a say.

Anyway, In Your Eyes was blates the worst video from Fever. Cheap rubbish saved only by the Kylie knuckleduster.
