I can never decide whether I love this or Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover more. I could probably do the entire rap word for word at any given time. If only we were still doing Moopy X Factor. :(

This is the better of the two you've mentioned - by far - but there's other stuff of hers I prefer.

That said, I've got four of her albums and I'm struggling to recall any others :D
 
Whaler is an AMAZING pop album. One of my all time favourites. Tongues & Tails is very good too. Saucy as anything too. There's a song about her fantasizing about fucking her own mother! :D

Yes, it's that kind of thing that puts me off... Anyway, Soul Lover was the one that popped up the other day and jolly good it was too. The remix is good too.
 
That chorus is pure pop bliss through and through, I marginally prefer it over "As I Lay Me Down". However, "Damn..." is still my favorite SBH song by some distance, and it's still played on US radio quite a bit.

And why is SBH in the Pop Toilet forum? :evil:

WTF :D

I knew "Damn..." was always supposedly about fucking an animal or lesbianism but I didn't know she took it even further. As much as I love quite a few of her singles, I don't think I could ever manage a Sophie B. Hawkins album all the way through.

Oh Whaler is a joy from start to finish. In my top ten albums ever. I can put some highlights in Sophie's ambiguous sexuality if you like.

Now 29 was my first also and I have fond memories of this song from that!
 
I had no idea she had an album last year. The aptly titled The Wilderness from 2004 is also very strong, it was such a nice surprise listening to that a mere 7-8 years after it came out. Whaler is the best album, but was not as critically well-received. I'm not that familiar with the third album, except the lovely No Connection. Right Beside You is divine.
 
Came on tonight and is legit one of the best songs of all time. Relentless with the beat and that chorus. Ridiculously amazing.
 
Gotta love casting youtube to the TV and the hits just spilling out gem after gem.

This is Sophie's pop thirst quenched in full - totally drenched in the kind of smouldering pop fatalist fantasia Sandra would give her right lung for (she doesn't use it anyway).

Even the spoken word derail is so 90s in terms of the unmistakable polish and folky textures.

Why wasn't this a huge transatlantic #1 again?

How good does this sound in this weather? Whizzing away at a sensible 70 on the motorway feeling refreshed after my rugby training and the unmistakable cool swirl of this begins. Heaven.
