Their OPUS (imo). Do we not have a thread for this in here? The sometimes rubbish moopy search couldn't find one anyway.

Oh sorry dUb and other posters. Could a kind mod please change it to 'Tangled'? I will then post a hilarious youtube of an old loreal kids "no more tangles" advert as a thank you.

English_Lad92? :D

EH?

Tangles Up?

Is it the Portuguese Language version?

Had this on last night - it remains their high point.

That comment was about this thread but I suppose it also applies to the album.

To Pop! (and also me) the cover is showing up as a Photobucket error message saying english_lad92's account is inactive :geek:

And why are there full stops after the numbers?

TP are you on drugs?

The album is an absolute STORMER and it's a crying shame it didn't have the success and sales of the vastly inferior Out of Control.

Oh how peculiar, i am not English_Lad 92 because i am OLD, but i could see that picture fine on Google image.

Also i'm too dull to be on drugs dUb :(

I love it, but it's only their third best album for me. The high points are amongst their very best work, but it very much falls into filler by the end...

Like all of their albums it's heavy on filler but I do prefer it to Out Of Control. Whereas some of the songs on that border on offensive, the fillers here are just dull - songs like I'm Falling and Crying For are almost a chore to get through. I remember loving Close To Love initially but it feels like it lasts for about six minutes...

Sexy! No No No is really pretty terrific (shameless Xtina rip-off video aside) and it's a shame it gets so much criticism. Call The Shots is very good but not the classic many people consider it, I wouldn't say. My favourite is the BIZARRE, MENTAL moment of brilliance that is Control Of The Knife. THAT is how vocoder is used.

I'm really feeling this at the moment so I can't give it less than 10 despite the fact I possibly should.

Call The Shots remains the single high point track of their career, despite The Promise achieving greater commercial success. When I first heard it, it felt like everything Xenomania had been trying to achieve with them in the previous five years. In one song.

Hyperbole ends here.

The Tony Lamezma mix of Call The Shots is sheer disco brilliance. It's totally the precursor to Untouchable.

"Call The Shots" is absolutely the high point of their career and I don't think they'll ever top it. I love "Untouchable", yes, but "Call The Shots" really is the perfect marriage of OLD SKOOL DISCO and NU SKOOL fabulousness

Despite having some fantastic tracks, the latter half is a little too heavy on filler for me to give it any more than an 8.

Love it. My favourite GA album. The first I gave a real chance, after refusing to succumn to their charms. Great memories of Summer 2008, listening to it on repeat.

A proper 10/10 album, and not just in some 'prefab pop' subcategory. "I'm Falling" and "What You Crying For" are obviously placeholder tracks to keep up the numbers but do fit nicely into the overall album theme of 'being both arrogant and confused as hell in your early '20s and stumbling your way into the big bad world'.

Let down massively by the second part of the album. I find this album soulless compared to the others, it's good, but it's a producers album (I know all of their albums are) it's just a bit faceless.

A 7 overall - it does contain their finest moment however, 'Call The Shots'

For me this is their best album by far..however it is also the most 'scatty'. Monumental highs (call the shots is actually perfect) but also has quite a few lows (Im falling). I find out of control a lot more consistent, but overall I doubt they will top this. Despite hating it at first, I really sexy no no no sounds like it could be released tomorrow and not sound dated at all, it really is a fantastically structured but randomly brilliant pop song.

Great but not as good as Out Of Control.

I'm guessing you didn't want to be a PUNKROKKA when you were young then?

Gosh, no thanks. Definitely in my top 10 WORST GA songs (I suppose it's a credit to an act for a fan to have enough material to compose such a list)

1. Fix Me Up
2. Love Bomb
3. Everything You Ever Wanted
4. I'm Falling
5. Mars Attack
6. We Wanna Party
7. Walk This Way
8. History
9. Big Brother
10. Turn To Stone

and just to end on a happy note, HERE'S MY TEN BEST

1. Call The Shots
2. Untouchable
3. It's Magic
4. Swinging London Town
5. Singapore
6. Wild Horses
7. Biology
8. Crazy Fool
9. Can't Speak French
10. Whole Lotta History

how they could seriously have the AUDACITY to segue "Fix Me Up" in right after the beauty of "Untouchable" is BEYOND ME. It's like a bucket of cold water in the face straight after winning your Best Person award

Reunion inspired reappraisal time!

09 Call the Shots
08 Close to Love
10 Sexy! No No No...
10 Girl Overboard
09 Can't Speak French
05 Black Jacks
10 Control Of The Knife - GLORIOUS
05 Fling
05 What You Crying For
05 I'm Falling
07 Damn
06 Crocodile Tears

Some of that guff at the end redefines FILLER but overall it's a solid record. I feel like I need to listen to their others again before I say it's their best

I never really bothered past track 8 in all honesty. Have occasionally flicked through them but nothing stood out, though nothing was terrible...just bland.

The first 8 though are all at least "pretty good" (Fling, Black Jacks) up to MAX TRACKS (Girl Overboard and Close To Love).

I'd rank it above OOC and possibly Chemistry, but I still think What Will The Neighbours Say, as ropey and 'cheap' as it is, is hands down their best effort.

08 Crocodile Tears (the "hmmmmm" is very Madonna)

The first four are an unbeatable opening quartet: although all non middle-8 vocals should just be handed over to Nadine, Call The Shots is sublime and Nicola's effort generates a unique, scintillating glitz of its own (like the hard-boiled outer shell of Nadine's vocal gloss giving way to a fragile, but compassionate centre from Nic); the next three are bullet-proof; and the production flaunted on Can't Speak French and Control of The Knife truly made them untouchable before Untouchable. I'm surprised they didn't tag Something Kinda Ooooh on at the end though.

I think it's easy to see that the first 5 tracks along with Somethin' Kinda Oooh were destined for a different album that was to be released until they decided to go with the greatest hits. What an album THAT would have been!

For once, after all this time, I'd say this was EXACTLY how I feel now. Though "Sexy" and "French" are 11s, if you're allowed THREE ABOVE TEN MAX TRACKS on one album :disco:

Do you think? Because surely it's "Something Kinda Ooh" that would have changed the way they were writing (or being written for) and the first five tracks are surely the ones more sonically in line with "Ooh" than the second half...

And let's face it, their albums have always been a bit SCHIZOPHRENIC

I only kind of deducted that because Somethin' Kinda Oooh features a writing credit from Jody Leigh as do Close to Love, Girl Overboard and Can't Speak French. She hasn't written previously or since then so I always presumed they were written together for a different album altogether. I'm not really sure what my point actually is apart from an album going Close to Love, Something Kinda Oooh, Girl Overboard may have been TOO MUCH for most :disco:
