So perhaps the last fling for Texas if Sharleen's insistence on making crap MOR for dumpy Asda mums nationwide is anything to go, Red Book saw Xenomania production and featured TWO top 10 singles (two #6s no less) - but was it any good? :o

i absolutely LOVED "Getaway" to within an inch of its life and then kind of liked "Can't Resist". i remember buying the album the day of release and listening to it just once and thinking it was nice enough but i never put it back on. :(

Probably an 8 now that I think about it, the last 2 tracks don't do it for me compared with the rest, but a very enjoyable album all the same.
 
This was released at the time when I was a blinkered Xenomania loon who thought everything they worked on was musical manna. Then I heard Can't Resist. WHAT A LOAD OF OLD FUCKING TOOT. It was like I had been worshipping false deities all along.

Getaway is just Inner Smile 2.0 is it not?

It's still my most played song on last.fm EVER with 176 plays.
It was my happy song, never failed to cheer me up. :D

(Queue VoR rabitting on about it sounding like a Bananrama song when it REALLY DOESN'T)
 
"Getaway" was a personal anthem of mine at the time as I had just broken up with my boyfriend and it really spoke to me. :shy:
 
"Careful What You Wish For" is the only Texas album i really enjoyed.

i think it's because it's the one that sounds LEAST like Texas.....

that album could have uncovered new fans had people KNOWN about it. It was very experimental. Personally I don't think it worked at all... but I do love "I'll See It Through" and the FABULOUS title track
 
i bought it randomly because i liked the cover :D and i kind of knew who Texas were but hadn't really given them much attention. i ended up LOVING the album to death for about a year. i liked their other stuff but for me, CWYWF was the pinnacle of my Texas fandom.

The title-track is IMMENSE

I'm also QUITE fond of "Telephone X", "Broken" and the blatant "Ray of Light" rip-off "And I Dream."
 
I remember ripping Telephone X and And I Dream along with the other two but deleted these ones along the way. I'm sure there was a reason WHY :D

I did go off a lot of their stuff after the two flop albums. I'll always go back to the WOB/Hush/GHits era though.

I kinda overplayed "Halo" back in the day to be honest.

Oh and may I add here that the Texas, Paris DVD is FANTASTIC
 
Halo and Black Eyed Boy are STAPLES but they just miss the CUT

Our mad French teacher made us translate songs into French and then sing them. I chose HALO and to this day it's slightly put me off.

Emphasis on when she TRIES

I saw her at G-A-Y a few years ago circa Red Book and whilst vocally she was great and all that she came across like a MARDY BITCH
 
I have that DVD. It's SUBLIME. the Parisians absolutely WORSHIP her.
 
Their second best album after WOB.

What About Us is absolutely stunning - was it not supposed to be a single at one point? It would have bombed, but nevertheless a sublime track.

It did begin to sag a little at the end, although Nevermind and Just Hold On are growers.

The only thing that annoyed me was Bad Weather - during the verses Sharleen sounded far too like Kylie for my liking.
 
Yeah 'What About Us' was supposed to be the last single from the album, but they never bothered in the end.

I remember 'Sleep' doing really well even though the CD single was not stocked in Woolies, and at the time it was very hard to get into the top 10 without Woolies backing.

I've never been that fond myself either. The summer sun/son was hiiiiiiigh - even I can only take 'meta' in pop songs to a certain degree.

I recall someone describing "What About Us" as a lost Erasure track with a slightly more masculine vocal, which sums it up to a tee :toyah:
