I really must get around to buying Youthquake. Cherry Pop have tried repeatedly to re-issue it alongside their other 80s albums but the contrary old cunt keeps blocking them. (though weirdly they did manage to get Sophisticated Boom Boom out a few years ago).

I listened to Jack & Jill Party today. It's quite good really. Shame nothing else came of it.

SCRAPED the top 75. That electroclash sound was never big, though. Even Ladytron weren't able to have a decent hit.
 
To be honest I think a Pete Burns record going top 75 at ALL was quite an achievement for 2004. It was two years prior to CBB too so his profile was pretty much non-existent.

EDIT: Although it WAS produced by the Pet Shop Boys so their fans may have gotten ON BOARD.

I'd like to think that my opinion is more INFORMED. As DEMONSTRATED at Star's wedding when it was claimed he'd never heard anything before NINETEEN NINETY FIVE.

Just because I'm not into Moopy gay interest icons.

I think this song is ok. Not dreadful but not AMAZING. Even Jessica Simpson couldn't turn it into anything other than an average pop song. I wouldn't turn it off, but I don't think I'd ever actively seek it out.

Digitalspy have posted a recent interview with Pete and posted this picture, if its a recent one then good LORD. His lips look the stuff of nightmares.

Of course I know who Donna Summer IS. But I wouldn't know more than 2-3 of her songs.
 
Not long after Donna Summer died, I was out with two female friends, both in their late 20s. One had never heard of her, the other knew she was 'that disco singer', but couldn't name a single song. I don't think she knew even I Feel Love when I played it on my iPod to her.

But then she's (a) not a gay man, and (b) a self confessed ignoramus.

I was at a pub quiz on Monday and in the picture round there were "people who died in 2012" and Donna Summer was one of them in a very well known and obvious pose. Not one of my team recognised her (and they are all around my age) and then the team we swapped with said "Whitney Houston" :( I was INCREDULOUS!

Anyway, I digress, "You Spin Me" is one of the greatest records of all time, from that clattering intro to the gutteral snarl Pete throws in and back through that amazing bassline and even if you don't like his voice, there's no denying it's a majestic performance and one perfectly suited to the material. It was MASSIVELY inspirational to a whole generation of pop music, though it in turn was basically inspired by Hazell Dean's "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)", right down to the bitter vocal delivery.

Dead or Alive have some other great stuff (namely "Something In My House", "Lover Come Back To Me" and "My Heart Goes Bang") but they never quite topped this...TREMENDOUS

Not really COMPARABLE but watching "Band Aid II" the other day, I found myself having to name almost everyone that came up for my friends. They're all the same age or slightly younger than me. I still find it surprising how little some of my friends know about pop culture prior to their birth.

As for Dead or Alive, I love me some "Brand New Lover"... in addition to the above song and "My Heart Goes Bang" up the page.
 
For someone who can't sing-sing he sure knows exactly what to do with his voice. I much prefer a lot of their other songs, but this is so undeniable. Timothy Lever and Mike Percy went on to produce Dannii's Everlasting Night after they left around 1987/8 - something Pete slagged them off for as he suggested they weren't comfortable making gay hand-bag music or something like that. Nukleopatra is my favourite, followed closely by My Heart Goes Bang Bang.
 
Obviously I'm rather strung out at the moment and can't actually listen to it without weeping, but I'm here to declare 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)' to be the GREATEST AND MOST EXCITING SONG EVER :disco:
 
On the rare occasions that everyone was out of the house in the MID 1980s and I got the chance to have the PARLOUR to myself I invariably used to SLAP THE MURDER MIX on the HI-FI. And have a wank. But not NECESSARILY SIMULTANEOUSLY.
