RuPaul's Drag Race (4 Viewers)

Great show. I really enjoyed it, to my surprise.

Michelle: god bless her, but she's such a septic cunt. You'd think she had a thistle for a tampon with that stony face. I'd love Santino to be replaced by mother of Chad and Detox, Merle, it would make for fascinating viewing. Michelle is essential, don't get me wrong, but I never thought she was actually that vile until this season.

Laganja came off far better than I was fearing. I'm somewhat relieved that she and Adore took it off camera for the Untucked episode (has this aired yet?). It was probably around episode 5 when it went a bit off the boil even for me, but all the okuuuys and everyone's frustrated recoiling still makes me laugh.

I wasn't invested in who won, but Bianca's rap was good and she delivered her usual lines in the usual way (not really her fault given how staged it must be), and I agree that she should have came out on top.

Could have done with more Q&As though.

For a second I thought Josalyn was marrying Chaz. Loved her face when Courtney brought up using yew-mah.

The mini interviews weren't so bad this time once the first ones were out of the way. Magnolia almost pulled it back. I quite liked her answer, but Ru wasn't having it, so it just became ultra awkward again.

I love that Alaska clearly loves Gia. For me, all the best lines this series were from her (the likes of "you look like a fucking dumpster", "you should have been read for that hair, but you weren't, so", "overall I feel great", "I thank you so much" and "let me feel my oats" et all might not have the stand-up value as Bianca, but we all have our tastes I guess).

Jinkx was shit. It's so stilted when some of them put on an affected voice in that setting.

Definitely!

How is she though? :disco:

I loved the final, it really was a two horse race with poor old Courtney (who still just can't get the relate-ability right) just on the fringe.
April Showers and Gia really should've stayed longer, wouldn't mind either for All Stars 2 just to see a bit more.

Alyssa Edwards warm up opening was better than half the show though (and I loved her BACK ROLLS?! at the end of the Drag Herstory segment)

Deserved winner, lots of filler, a pretty standard crowning but overall really enjoyed it as my first season watching it at it's broadcast pace.

Sidebar: LOVING Adore's song and video

You girls... look goood!

I actually think there's a chance she could make All Stars 2 given the attention she's had. And bless April for even bringing it up, I can't quite see there being any demand for her.

I think Gia will be in All Stars with maybe Ben from this season. I wouldn't mind Kelly Mantle making it through as well but I hope they change the format, the first All Stars was well shit.

Yes, Gia was clearly thrown under the bus far too early. And April should have been switched with Jocelyn.

I don't think Gia was thrown under the bus, she had a few catch phrases but her drag and performance were below average.

Someone commented that they are very similar in that they are both superficial in their own way. Milk just came off terribly insecure for someone that pretty as a boy and she changed her whole look for the reunion.

I also watched the recap show and Sharon was awful in it, she's the one I rooted the hardest for yet after winning she just became intolerable.

I couldn't figure out what was up with Milk (I actually wondered if she was high) because she seemed like a completely different person to the character portrayed on the rest of the show.

How 'fabulous'.

As much as I wasn't into her on the show, Vivacious's walk along with the music was quite something. She also looked great on the night too, but completely delusional about one's own credentials. Did Michael Alig hand him a flyer one time or something? The club kid connection amounted to nothing.

Purely based on how I enjoyed them (with best and worst attributes blurred to the point of no distinction), this is as much in order as I can put them in:

Gia Gunn
Laganja Estranja
BenDeLaCreme
Bianca Del Rio
Adore Delano
Trinity K. Bonet
Darienne "there's room for everybody" Lake
Courtney Act
Kelly Mantle
April Carrión
Vivacious
Joslyn Fox
Magnolia Crawford
Milk

It was a strong cast. You could say most of the earlier eliminations had more to show, but some (ie Milk) just spilled through out of sheer luck. I thought it was good that Milk did turn out a glamorous look in the end, but what his "style of drag" on the show was supposed to be, Raja, Detox and even Nina at a push did it so much better - Milk seemed terrified at the humiliating prospect of actually passing for female. Gasp indeed.

I saw Michelle Visage in Manchester on Saturday. She was at Popcurious hosting The Hunty Games.

She was so nice! She made sure she got a picture with everyone and even let me touch her boobs (firm).

I was so star struck that I forgot to ask her if she hated Santino, but she did take the piss out of Lasagne's constant Okurrrrrrrrr's.

I met her too, and also molested her tits. She was so lovely and gracious. I wish I'd've asked her about Santino. I bet she fucking hates him.

I'm disappointed that she was so NICE TBH.

(But I knew she would be - she's adorable on Twitter and the biggest Anglophile I've ever seen!)

This was a great season but SO nearly ruined by horrendous editing and bizarre producer agendas .

Poor TKB Trinity Kardashian Bonet was the queen well and truly SHAFTED by production. The queen of the s6 runway getting eliminated before two sewing challenges..? Clearly TKB would have mopped the competition UP those weeks and sailed into the final 4, so she had to go. No surprise that Jocelyn (who had a marriage storyline) was pushed through the chat show week and kept for the wedding challenge (despite some of the worst runways EVER) ahead of queen Trinity.

The keeping around of Darienne for a cheap villain edit was simply BIZARRE. She should have been cut at the rap challenge, never mind make the top 4. Clearly Ben was hilariously screwed over, but I think the internet made their opinions on THAT more than clear (which is also what production probably wanted)

Finally Courtney's treatment was downright disrespectful for somebody that has legitimately done very well on her own without Drag Race. Making her invisible for half the season, then editing her out of context to seem like a bitch to Jocelyn (other queens from s6 have confirmed Courtney was a sweetheart and never came close to bullying Joselyn), then giving her about 30 seconds of screen time at the reunion...gurl whhuuuuuut. God only knows who she pissed off to get such a bizarre edit. She had the best runway all season behind TKB, and did pretty well at almost every challenge (but was edited to be resting on pretty?).

Gripes and moans aside however, it was a great season, and Laganja and Gia are iconic. Without a doubt the strongest cast ever with NO fillers (I would say MILK was the nearest to a filler, I think even Magnolia Crawford had something to offer). Cher's Mum really needs to get over the depression though, sheesh.

And to illustrate my point that Magnolia Crawford has something to offer (perhaps just not on Drag Race) -

I suppose it was an obvious idea, but I was making a Laganja montage with the same song, same pun, before 'viacom' reported my account for copyright infringement. I'm not bitter that someone else has done it (and done it better) at all.

i kinda like this

Adore Delano's album is OUT now - and is actually REALLY decent :disco:

PARTY!

Awful, talk about an outdated song and concept.

Okay so I'm FINALLY two episodes in to Season 1 and obviously LOVING IT :D

I think it's hilarious how it's a completely unashamed carbon copy of Project Runway. The tasks, the creative work on the designs and costumes, the catwalk sequence, the elimination procedure... all the same. Isn't the set/studio/backstage area all the same place as Project Runway as well? Do they just share the space?

I'm not familiar with names yet (except for ONGINA, lolz) but the black one who's been in the bottom 2 each week and is a gorgeous DQ but clearly a lazy, selfish, deluded gay - I do hope there is a RuPaul-channelling-Tyra "HOW DARE YOU" moment to come :disco:

Yes, it's just a gayer version of PR, but that's what makes it all the more fabulous.

Is that Akasha or something? It's been a while since I have seen that season.

Monsta's favourite Glasgow night - Menergy - has SO MANY Queens over the next few months: Milk & Tammie Brown, Bianca del Rio, Adore Delano, Detox Icunt, Courtney Act and Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 over the next few months. Also The Buffalo Girls from Drag Queens of London, supporting Bianca, who no one else will probably give a FUCK apart from me! :D

I've decided I'll try it out for Bianca and The Buffalo Girls to see what it's like. Going by the photos of people who attend, I don't have high expectations!

Season one may be the only season I've only watched once. It's a bit shit. So if you're liking it, the best is yet to come (Seasons 2, 3 and 4 :disco: )

But are you going on the Drag Cruise? There are simply too many jokes about Munter as Shelley Winters in the Poseiden Adventure.
