New single. Last year's album scrapped. Debuted live and sounding excellent, a classic Gwen pop ballad.

That sounds fabulous. I question whether the album will ever come out though. :(

Also, does that woman ever age?

that video projection is one of the worst things i've seen ever. cringe.

the song sounds a bit annoying as well.

Oooh songs about the divorce. This should be interesting seeming as she has FORM singing about heartbreak. On first listen there are some really nice classic Gwen ballad bits but then it goes into something else that I'm not that fond of. Need to listen to the studio version.

have you seen her in The Voice? Her face is practically FROZEN I am amazed she can still sing properly. She looks like she's very alert, tight forehead and fish lips.

Interesting piece about the other album being scrapped and the process behind this one

“It didn’t feel right,” Stefani tells EW of scrapping that collection. “I didn’t feel fulfilled. That record with Benny was done that way because I had just given birth and had just started on The Voice and felt like I should do something in music, but what was I going to do? There wasn’t enough time. So I tried to make a record where I was just kind of involved — which is how a lot of people do it, but it didn’t work for me.”

“I needed to go through what I needed to go through to write the [new] record that I needed to write. There was a lot of prayer and meditating in the sense of trying to be open and grateful with this record,” Stefani tells EW of her process. “These songs are really natural — they’re from not worrying about what happened or what’s going to happen but about living in the moment, from trying to be present and trying to feel.”

Stefani says once the songs started coming, they just wouldn’t stop. “I’ve never had that before,” she says. “In the beginning, I was just really naïve. I didn’t know I could write songs. But then once you have success and people hear your work, you’re never pure again. Then it became a huge burden. Coming off Tragic Kingdom (1995) — touring for two years and 15 million albums sold, moving out of my parents house at 26 into a mansion — everything changed. I felt like then I had to prove I was a good songwriter. And that took like three years, Return to Saturn (2000). And then it was Rock Steady (2001) where I was like, ‘I’m just going to be free and have fun!’ That record was a lot freer and faster, and fun. And then [Love Angel Music Baby (2004)]. And then I wasn’t even ready to shut down, so I made Sweet Escape (2006). And then the last No Doubt record was just really hard, it was no one’s fault, it just was what it was. Music has been a journey, a real journey.”

While the singer doesn’t offer an expected release date for the music, she began writing in June and already has more than an album’s worth of material. “It happened really fast,” she admits. “[But] I just feel so lucky to make music. It’s a gift to channel true emotions and then capture them. When I finish a song I listen to it so many times — until I can’t listen again — because you learn things about yourself that you didn’t even know you were saying, or needed to say.”

'It just didn't feel right'

Translation for - the singles flopped so I had to start again :D

In all seriousness though I am glad she has because she seems more focused now and the new song sounds promising. I love a good Gwen ballad and surely divorce will mean more heartfelt stuff that the awfukl buzz singles

Bless her, she's such a douche.

unfortunate single cover alert

Ah, that's a shame. Spark the Fire (FEATURING AND PRODUCED BY PHARRELL OFF BLURRED LINES) really felt from the heart.

am i the only one who finds that video painful to watch?

and she really needs to limit the makeup to just a gallon per application.

I can see what she was trying to do but it misses the mark completely. She did it a lot better in the Early Winter video.

When Gwen's on the mark, she's REALLY good.

But let's face it, her solo career to date has very much been a matter of a few towering highs surrounded by some of the worst music ever committed to record by a major recording star.

as well as in the 4 in the morning and underneath it all videos. shouldn't she be getting better with time?

yeah after repeated listens I'm still not feeling this, it all feels so contrived and that video is not helping much either. she desperately WANTS it this time doesn't she? I know it's said before but she can do much better, she doesn't have to compete with the Arianas and the Demis. It just feels like a meh pop song, I wanted DRAMA like 4 in the morning or Early Winter or at least the SASS of Cool.

Also big BOOH to her for flushing her video budget back then with Baby Don't Lie and Spark The FAYRA.

That video is absolutely awful. Overacting with her eyes to compensate for the fact that her face is little more than a death mask.

The video was actually just shot as a tour backdrop and released when the song got good buzz. Album's not out til next year anyway

I wonder if she recorded several takes of that video trying to squeeze out a tear or two for dramatic effect.

The song is pretty good but who told her to use the backdrop from that live Perf as the video? Does she want a fucking hit?!

Yes she's the SKA ADELE but no need for that video

He means America.

I think this is going to surprise people. It's a very radio-friendly autumnal ballad. Not sure it'll do anything in the UK, where her stock is a lot lower and Radio 1 probably won't touch her, but I can see it being a decent US hit.

I think this will do well if Fergie managed to get a Top 5 8 years after last being there. Although on the other hand, the Black Eyed Peas would have kept her in the limelight for longer...

Did she do any major promo for Baby Don't Lie or that terrible other one I've blocked out?

This is classic Gwen/No Doubt ballad. Love parts of the melody.

Was Ellen really 'blown away' by the music video? :D

I wonder if Baby Don't Lie and/or Spark the Fire will be on the new album. I know she said she scrapped the whole album but she included those in her recent gigs.,
