Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own

Well I love the Tiesto version of this - his vocals are slightly Daniel Bedingfield in that they both sound like old Jamaican women with that whole raspy, strained thing going on.

At least Miss Robyn is cashing them royalty cheques, so for that I'm quite pleased.

The usage of the LIFE AFFIRMING ORIGINAL VERSION in a recent episode of Orange Is The New Black was quite possibly the 17th best use of a song in a film/TV show of all time. ALL TIME.

Not to make everything about RuPaul's Drag Race (if only), but even if it was a shit lip-sync, the sight of a then unknown to be drunk Jujubee and Raven holding each other up (and possibly getting emotional just to stop themselves laughing or throwing up) is the image I most associate with it.

And yes that was the 9th best use of a song in a TV show/film ever.

I had a v. emosh moment to the original in a low rent Manchester dancery last night. Robyn, making gays cry into their little popper bottles in a way Calum Scott never could.

I almost feel a little sorry for him with all the (deserved) vitriol he's getting. He's basically one of us - massive gay who adores Robyn and thinks she didn't get her dues, but realises he can't pull off a big synthfest and that the shit British public always loves a shit candlelight version with a whinging emotional man on top.

(Let the vitriol continue anyway.)

Is he getting vitriol from anywhere other than GAY CHATBOARDS, though? I'm sure he can weather that.

His version is going to end up 'selling' a million, I'm quite sure.

The chart-run for this garbage is rather astonishing. 40-42-36-36-36-38-42-27-28-16-12-10-4-4-3-{2}-3-3-4-4-4

Talk about a sleeper hit, in that it's tedious enough to fall asleep to.

Oh god, I had forgotten Calum Scott was ever a thing.

My (gay) neighbours once thought to put on his dreary version on. Within 30 seconds I was blasting Robyn as loud as my speakers allowed. I hope they got the point.
