Saint Etienne - Home Counties [New Album 2017]

I voted too. I feel dirty for not giving some CASINO CLASSICS some deserved points but C'EST LA VIE.

I love "Soft Like Me" but, let's face it, it REALLY shouldn't have been a single...
You see I do agree but then I inflicted that album at the time on a couple of non fans on a couple of road trips we did and that was their take away track from the album so who knows?

I voted on the survey. If I thought too closely about it it became impossible so it was all about whim and instinct for me. My no1 was clear in my head though.

"Soft Like Me" is wonderful but it really is all about "Shower Scene" for me.

Good news from Notting Hill INDEED

Filling that survey made me go back and listen to some of the old Et and I know I can't take my votes back but fuck "I got your music"!!!! "Hobart Paving" and "Avenue" I hope you can forgive me taking you for granted :(

You’ll have to wait until 2022 to rectify it :D

I'm going to have to dig through an old box of cd singles long hidden away in the wardrobe to find the Action single as the poll reminded me of it and the fact there's a radio edit remix version which is much stronger than the album version.

VOTED (I think - I was just typing my name when the thank you for your vote message came up so I must have tapped something inadvertently).

My number one was nailed on, but the rest was very difficult.

Nearing 300 votes now- i’m amazed how well it’s done!

Well this is very nice:

The spoken bit is rather glorious too.

Now feel the warmth of summer sun
See me on TV at NUMBER ONE

The EP it’s from is DELIGHTFUL! They performed it live at the weekend’s shows and it’s really rather lovely...

Shame that in typical fashion they seem to be making the EP a mission to get hold of. Camel Coat definitely sounds too good to me for one of their limited releases.

There's also a limited 7" being released with Camel Coat or a version thereof. The label are also issuing a Wedding Present single at the same time and they both sold out in a hurry.

My number 1 at #25? That’s just not fair.

I like "A Good Thing", but wouldn't place it anywhere near the top of the list at all. Then again, they do have at least 30 excellent singles, so it's not a bad result OVERALL...

Indeed, WELCOME TO BEING A SAINT ETIENNE FAN! I went to New York to make sure I got a copy :D

Luckily I've had my eye on that site doing those 7"s FOREVER as I just KNEW it was something they'd be involved in- particularly when there was a Birdie one earlier this year. There were quite a few at the shows as well, though...

It’s a number of things. It’s a good song first and foremost. It’s also the lyrics really resonated at the time which set it apart for me (see also Teenage Winter) and then to top it off it was used wonderfully well in the excellent Volver.

Oh, if anyone was going to be right on it, it was you...

I've got my 2CD of Continental out to revisit this evening.

I adore "Volver" and yes, it's perfect in that...

And what a JOY that is! I might join you after John Grant's finished- every day should have their version of "Stormtrooper in Drag" in it...

5pm this evening on the St Et webshop was fucking painful. Crashing left and right, but at least the EP and Mondo Casino CDs that went into my basket just about on the hour finally went through about twenty five minutes later.

Both worth the spend if you ask me, as I originally said.

The trick with Saint Etienne stuff is to get there before 5 and REFRESH LIKE FUCKING CRAZY- so often the stuff goes up before the due time. But yes, their web server is fucking painfully shite. Every single time.

Ta, I shall bear that in mind for the future. I would have been slightly bothered if I missed out on the remix album but I very much needed the EP.

I really think that Camel Coat would have been proper single material with a spit and polish (and maybe a slightly better vocal on the verses from Sarah :shy:).

Forty Light Years is quite a CHUGGER. Very good.

In fairness, whilst I agree, do they need a proper single? They don’t usually bother with videos and it won’t have gotten any airplay...

I know but at least it should be a bit more widely available. It hasn't appeared on Spotify (yet) - I assume it isn't on iTunes either.

Well I doubt they’ll bother- the whole idea is that it was exclusive to the tour as a thank you to all the US fans who miss out on tour stuff. They just sold the leftovers at the UK shows...

I got the latest 'fanclub' compilation release for Xmas. Included together with two other Home Counties offcuts is this wonderful Et go dancey number:

Further evidence that there was a better album in the Home Counties sessions than the one we ended up with.
