Monday found DEAD

I've been following this local little 5 year old girl who urgently needed a stem cell donor after being diagnosed with cancer. Her parents did a massive appeal and so many people signed up and they found a donor. She had the transplant in Sept but caught an infection after. Her parents have just posted to say she passed away last night from the infection :( RIP little one.

:(

I'm going to a funeral tomorrow morning before work. There's going to be a wake at the local pub for friends, with many people I haven't seen for years. I wish I'd taken a whole day holiday now.

A day's holiday for a funeral? I'd definitely have got that off for free.

Most places don't. It's in policy not to give it at work and I always ignore it and let people have it off. One of the other directors in another part of the group has been enforcing it and made someone go without pay at the end of last year for 2 days as they had no holiday left and needed to travel up North- for the funeral of a grandparent...I was fucking outraged!

It's not family.

Our policy is literally parents, siblings, spouses or children, if I remember rightly. And we also only give a week off if your husband/wife/child/parent dies.

If Mr Sheena carked it suddenly, there is NO FUCKING WAY I'm going to be going back to work the Monday after...

Our policy is just "emergency compassionate leave" which can be for pretty much anything. It's ripe for abuse, but funnily enough if you treat people like adults...

Thats fucking disgusting.

Only real difference is that, nowadays, as well as having the adverse on yr credit file for 6 years, you'll get loaded to the fraud database too.

Happy to help.

I'll be in the Costa Del Sol on my second passport before they can load my ugly mug into that fucker.

INNIT! I went beserk. He is new to his role so I guess he was just playing by the rules but FUCK THAT.

@Indie makes a very good point- all of this shit should be used as a guideline but you leave people to it and don’t enforce it unless someone is taking the piss. I fail to see what’s difficult about that...

Ours is the same. And completely discretionary.

Same here. Grandparent/grandchild isn't a given although I've never heard of anyone being refused for either.

I don't understand why you'd refuse anyone the right to go to a fucking funeral. They're hardly a fun day out.

HMPH.

It’s the eternal “taking the piss” thing. I don’t understand it at all- it’s one of the last taboos, just making up a death to get a day off.

It certainly is remarkable how many grandparents some people have
