are we pretending the new one didn't happen?

i think we perhaps should.

If you're going to sample My Favourite Things you better make sure it's better than the Big Brovaz (which this is not)

IS SHE EVER GOING TO RELEASE ANOTHER GAY WORTHY BANGER?

jesus I sometimes think pop really is dead. all these new music spotify playlists sound so SAMEY and are the aural equivalent of DEAD INSIDE.
same beige trap beat, spoken rap choruses and contrived yuh YUH YUH as if they're burping

edit: must be said I don't dislike it and think it's actually kind of nice but STILL

ok I quite low-key like this but it sitll infuriates me how she doesn't just embrace pop music AS SHE SHOULD

just keepn pretending you're black my Lil'Boca Raton Self-Tanned Trap Queen

My seniors today were telling me how "bogus" her new song is. Is this true?

seeing the picture of her stood alongside Nicki in particular...

her gradual transition to this look is definitely a little troubling, in my opinion, especially paired with some of her vocabulary these days.

It's probably no surprise given that she's so immensely powerful right now, but there's a serious backlash swirling and she needs to handle it with some delicacy and address the frustrations around her look/theft of 7 rings if she's gonna come through unscathed.

She's fully white?!

I always assumed she was of latin or mixed origin. Those 'before' pics are a totally different person. :D

She's certainly releasing them at an remarkable rate... Strike while the iron is hot and all that but I don't like this.

She's Italian American like Madonna I think, no?

I don't see a problem with her fake tan to be honest. Twitter as usual proving to be as ridiculous as one expects it to be....

I think when you're tanning to look mixed/black and adopting a dialect to match, it's a bit of a problem. If Gaga (also Italian American) did the same, people would be AGOG. It's only because Ariana is young, hot and makes r&b-pop that she's been able to get away with it thus far

So I'm supposed to be offended / triggered everytime I walk down a British high street and I see a fake-tanned hoop-earringed and parka jacket wearing teenager?

I'm not telling you to be offended, I'm saying it's clear to see how others might be

And I'm saying it's not clear how others could be offended.

I don't think the motivations behind a swirling backlash (as you put it) have as much to do with her fake tan or so-called cultural appropriation and more to do with the fact that as a culture we love to build people up to tear them down and a lot of people are thinking that she's probably due a backlash.

Just my opinion!

There is also that of course. She's the nation's sweetheart on an international scale. So you KNOW the backlash will be BRUTAL - if we thought Cherly had it bad...

I'm not offended by her blacking up for caucasian coins, but it's always funny when someone reaches the "I am now urban" stage of their career and starts pretending they're from the hood, it's so transparent. It reminds me of Kathy Griffin calling Justin Timberlake NUBIAN.

When you see them racks, they stacked up like my ass, yeah

i knew she was white all along and i put her tanning down to poor taste.

can't wait for a time when it's only ok to make r&b if you're black.

So now the chick accusing Ariana of stealing her song has taken her tweet down because a producer has posted that she stole her own song from them and never paid. Thieving bitches everywhere.

This is looking likely to be #1 this week, isn't it? Still #1 on iTunes and almost double the streaming figures of Ava Max on Spotify.

Hang on a sec....Ariana Grande has been on the telly since she was a teenager and she wasn't white then. One pic in harsh lighting and she's designated honky at birth and "appropriating"? Get to fuck.

She's of Southern Italian/Sardinian descent isn't she? She would be quite dark if she tanned naturally, I think.

The pics of her from 10 years ago definitely show her with white skin, she is definitely fake tanning. And look It's not just that though, it's her whole demeanour and the way she speaks now with her vocabulary and slang. But she's had work done too, on her lips for sure, and her nose.

Ariana plays Dublin in a leprechaun outfit with a pig under her arm, opening with new song "T'Be Sure, Okayso".

Ariana plays Norfolk without reproducing with a sibling or cousin. Burnt inside a large wicker man.

The idea that an Italian-American woman is in 'blackface' because she's tanned and uses the same lingo as pretty much every young person is a bit of a reach IMO. There's legitimate conversations to be had about appropriation etc, but youth culture is so massively influenced by black artists, of course fans of rap and r'n'b are going to buy into the language and culture of the music.

Next week: Ariana in Twitter firestorm after eating watermelon

Lest we forget she legit was embroiled in a DONUT LICKING scandal.

I missed the donut licking thing, apart from being aware of there being one. What was that about? I guessed it was either a crap meme or it was about rimming

She and her then boyfriend licked some donuts in a shop then put them back. They were later sold to customers. It was caught on CCTV.

She was so disgusted by one of the donuts she said "What the fuck is this? I hate Americans. I hate America". That probably inspired a bigger backlash among flag-loving yanks than the donut licking.
