another year, another run of hyped games that will bomb

which is why I've returned to the roots. currently playing Morrowind (tweak it with a few mods and it's still amazing) and the recently ported Castlevania: Symphony of the Night which is probably my favourite game from the PS1 days. take that, nefarious spawns!
 
but what are we looking forward to? initially I was ready for Days Gone but less so now. I'm still ready for (strictly PS4) Cyberpunk 2077, Last of Us 2, Dying Light 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Skull & Bones (they probably won't be out this year though)

another game like Firewatch would be great too
 
Firewatch was AMAZING.

Not that I played it. I just watched a YouTube play through :D
 
I am playing River City Tokyo Rumble on the 3DS. It's cartoonish but with a surprising amount of depth in the combat system. 2019 is also the year I've caved in and bought a PS4 with PSVR so hopefully I'll be enjoying Tetris Effect, Astro Boy and Resident Evil VII very soon.
 
I’m currently halfway through God Of War and massively looking forward to Resident Evil 2 in a few weeks!
 
I’ve just finished Spider-Man, which is up there with Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and X-Men Legends 2 in my list of favourite Marvel games. Flitting between Soul Calibur and Jurassic Park Evolution now.
 
Has anyone played Celeste? I downloaded it on my Switch after seeing it being touted as one of the best games ever made. So far, it's... fine. Mildly irritating. Any fans in here?
 
I still don’t have a tv so I’m stuck playing on my laptop.

Heroes of the Storm mostly and I downloaded Dragon Age: Origins but I haven’t played that in a bit.

I loved it! It's VERY hard though, which is sort of the point (and factors into the story) but it can definitely get frustrating at times. I didn't manage to do the last couple of levels without turning the cheats on :shy:
 
I mentioned Celeste in the 2018 thread. I thought it was FANTASTIC. But I love platformers so this was always going to be up my alley. I found the story really well told without overdoing it.
 
I've been playing Zelda: The Minish Cap, which I never had back when it came out. It's really lovely! Just a straightforward, nicely designed little game with cute graphics and a talking hat :laugh: The past few weeks when my dad was in hospital I'd got in the routine of visiting after work then having about an hour to myself at home before having to go to bed, so I decided to find something nice to play that would help take my mind off things - this is perfect for that :grin:
 
ALSO it has Tingle Tits in it, my favourite of all Nintendo's sex offender characters (sorry Waluigi).
 
the remastered Resident Evil 2 is out today, isn't it? I will most likely wait for a sale but it looks incredible
 
Yeah I am famously anti-remakes and anti-rehashing shit from beyond the grave but PS1 era masterpieces in 4K with updated controls I can get behind.
 
Yes I definitely want Resident Evil 2 but it seems a bit pricey at £45.

I’ve played a couple of hours so far. Loving it.
It’s not more expensive than any other games here and it’s a remake not a remaster so I don’t understand why they wouldn’t charge full price.
 
I'm just starting Shadow of the Tomb Raider. So far feels like I might just as well have played one of the previous ones again.

Kingdom Hearts III :disco:

Such a MESS of a game. I love and loathe it in equal measure. The graphics veer between amazing and PS3-standard - although that's hardly surprising for a game that was in development for over a decade.

The plot jumps forward SO far from Kingdom Hearts II - apparently ALL of the spin-offs in the last 14 years are canon so there's little attempt to recap or provide any context to the crazy shit that's going on.

The Let It Go section is probably worth the admission price alone - it looks absolutely PHENOMENAL:

It’s weird, I was flip flopping between that and OMG they Forrest Gumped Frozen.

In that thumbnail the new Elsa looks like she’s had fillers compared to the right

But it’s such an uninspired use of the engine. Like that new shot for shot Lion King.
 
I understand Slave, it IS impressive! I was never a KH person beyond the music and the Final Fantasy connection (which I understand is quite minimal at this point), but I listened to a podcast episode the other day where a team of games journalists try to untangle the storyline and FUCKING HELL :D
 
Oh I've given up on hoping to understand the storyline.

It's quite frustrating because, having played through KH I.5 and II.5 in preparation, they're not THAT confusing. II.5 is a bit worse but there isn't much missed between the first two games and they're both fairly well self-contained.

It's just everything that's happened since. I sort of get it; Disney was off the boil at the time and they had very few new worlds to choose from - given that almost every world in KH III is from the last 20 years (and presuably they wouldn't have had access to the slightly older Pixar ones until fairly recently), they evidently ran out of content to create a third home console game - and then the resurgence happened so quickly, that they've been playing catch-up.

But rather than keep chucking out games on every other system going, I wish they'd just left it alone. Kingdom Hearts III starts talking about Aqua, Terra, Lea, the power of waking, etc. and just takes for granted that you know what they're on about. I barely pay attention to the cut-scenes outside of the Disney worlds because they're meaningless.
 
I haven't played Kingdom Hearts since the first which I completely loved and wonder why I didn't bother with more, but reading this makes me terrified to even try now!
 
I promised myself I'd wait for the RE2 remake to half its price as it inevitably will after a month but I couldn't stop myself.

It's so riveting and addictive and I'm aware this stems from nostalgia - I wish to god I'd replayed the original prior to this just so I could appreciate all the connections and recreated scenes, as it stands it's all but a blurred memory - but actually it's still fabulous in its own right and downright BRUTAL. I'm on "normal" mode and feel like I'm barely surviving from door to door.

From what I've read the B scenarios don't match up in the same way as they did in the original which seems like a lazy oversight but oh well.
 
RE2 is terrifying business. but what a treat! started today with a friend and I dare not continue without him

I’m LOVING RE2. I’ve done Claire A, Leon B and I’m now trying to do Leon A quick enough to get the infinite handgun.
 
I know nothing about all the secret challenges that probably abound but infinite handgun sounds like JUST WHAT I NEED

S rank (under 3.5 hours) on either characters A scenario will get you the infinite handgun.
The best I’ve managed so far is B rank.
 
I managed to get S Rank for Leon. If I want any more infinite weapons I have to do S+ rank (under 2.5 hours, 3 saves max) on hardcore. I think I’ve done all I’m going to achieve.
