AS4 E08: RuPaul's Best Judy Race

I really thought it was a Judy Garland impersonation challenge right down to the runway, so I was very confused.

Trinity deserves to be an AllStar FAR more than Trixie based on her actual performance on the show IMO - but yeah if she wins the optics aren’t great.

She truly has CUNT. To quote Jujubee, Trixie’s just UNT.

@VoR, why are you convinced the producers swayed naomi?

- Nothing in Naomi's previous behaviour tracks with making that decision. She was close to Manilla, she worked together with her successfully in the Jersey Justice challenge, Manilla saved her when she was in the bottom a few weeks previously, she never questioned the 'track record' system the way other queens did and she's never displayed that kind of cut-throat attitude before. Could she be a silent killer? Absolutely, but I don't buy it.

- Monet is one of the best lip sync artists in the game and she utterly threw that Judy lip sync. She clearly wasn't even trying. Why do that for any other reason than to avoid making what could be a very unpopular decision?

- It just tracks too conveniently with the exact point that last season's runwaway frontrunner Bendelacreme dramatically went out. It's the 'shake up everything' point in the season. Like Ben, I did have a sneaking suspicion that Manilla winning wasn't in the show's narrative. Like Ben, she's extremely talented, but she's not been particularly visible for years.

Maybe I'm tinfoil hatting, but it absolutely reeks of the producer's hand to me. It's not like there's any reason to believe this show is above that, they've always twisted the footage to force their preferred narrative. It's just a bit tougher in AllStars because they've handed some power to the actual queens.

I think the show appears really forced and overproduced all the time, but this episode didn't feel particularly more than any other.

Bollocks. Naomi can just see the end in sight and her chance to actually win. Ben never wanted to go in, in the first place. Monet was clearly aiming for something that just didn't work.

Yeah Monet was going for realism (with a piece of shit prop). That might have won it in another situation, considering Ru’s obsession with Judy.

Unfortunately Naomi was going for “Drag Race lip sync”

Latrice going back in, is the most overly produced feature of this series.

Of course. But is Latrice getting a free pass and Manilla getting thrown under the bus mutually exclusive?

I don't especially care either way, beyond wishing the show would allow itself to be a little more organic. But I'm surprised people really think the queens have totally free reign over their decision making when everything else we know about the show indicates otherwise.

how is no one talking about this?

i was literally rolling on the floor.

Can we just delete this thread please? I get shell shock every time I'm reminded of this episode .

That Latrice / Manila comparison sure is SOMETHING :D

I don't know if the whole thing is produced and choreographed as much to the Nth degree as some think (although I certainly think that's far more likely than the queens having complete autonomy), but I'm in a couple of Facebook fan groups, and the complete naivety to the process is almost shocking.
