Miley Cyrus goes undercover in the workroom to spy on the new cast of queens competing for $100,000; the first test is to create signature looks from materials belonging to former Drag Race legends.

This was alright, Soju was an embarrassment but at least she went home.

Silky is too much, I’m getting flashbacks of Eureka but without the looks. Scarlet’s make up is terrible and Mercedes is so forgettable.

I like the weird bold queen who’s name I can’t remember.

There are too many queens.

it was an entertaining episode. i was actually embarrassed for soju, poor nina west was wretched too. brooke and yvie (the weird bold queen) are my frontrunners at this point.

i don't know, it all just feels been-there-done-that and the queens playing to the camera are annoying.

It's on Netflix.

Sojo was a complete disaster and that cyst story was :zombie:

Silky Nutmeg Gunash is unbearable.

It felt very old school season.

I like Brook Lynn and I think I like Honey Davenport. Soju is likeable but the look was terrible. Scarlet is annoying. They need to dial back on Silky and even Vanjie a little.

Otherwise I'll reserve judgement.

Silky was horrific, she made it quite clear that she was acting up so she could get cast again if she got sent home. I need her to calm her ass down.

Silky went from being my early fave to making me want to bang my head against the wall

And we thought Eureka was over bearing :side-eye:

It all feels a bit SEASON 2. It's hard to get a grasp of anyone with SO MANY queens, but no one really stood out. Everyone seemed a little bit old school like their thing had been done before, but better.

April Versace

eyes.

anyway the entire untucked feels like a parody and they have the sound effects on standby. i also love how they teased some of the greatest hits in the beginning.

get her, jade!

Right person went home. I was disappointed to see Kahana bottom 2 - she's a cutie out of drag - but she did a fairly good lip-sync.

So much Vanjie! Her runway was so much better than last year.

I didn't hate Silky as much as some others. I Feel seh'll probably calm down as the weeks go on if she stays.

Re-watching the season 10 premiere (a season i wasn't even a huge fan of) it was only really Dusty and Kalorie that were total write offs.
You could totally see early outs like Mayhem and Blair popping up on an All Stars season, and I'm fully expecting Asia, Kameron, Cracker (eugh) and possibly The Vixen to prop up the next All Stars cast with whoever hasn't been on from season 9.

It's early, but I just don't see it for this season. I'm struggling to root for anybody aside from Vanjie as she's such great TV (I find her uninspiring as a drag queen).
Why would you lose your shit over Yvie Oddly when Vander Von Odd exists and is INCREDIBLE.
Is anybody really going to go nuts for Brooke Lynn when Miss Fame had the same aesthetic but much much much better several seasons ago.

Reddit is saying however the queens TOTALLY bring the drama this season though, so perhaps this will be the season of messy reality TV rather than iconic drag :basil:

I also think it's quite telling re Drag Race fatigue that we've just had a SEASON PREMIERE and barely anybody seems to be talking about it aside from saying how underwhelmed they are, or that there's just been TOO MUCH DRAG RACE to keep invested.

I found this video pretty spot on:

I fancy Nina a lot, apart from that it was fine but I don't have a lot to say about it. This feels like a season that'll REALLY benefit from clearing out the deadwood, so far there are too many queens and not many stand out.

Looking forward to another wonderfully written acting challenge next week :side-eye:

The show needed a break between AS4 and S11. It is just too much. And now throw in DRUK whenever we get it (I'm guessing summer?) and we're almost robbed of a sense of anticipation any more.

Not entirely sure I agree too much with that video though - or at least the whole manufacturing the story arc he seems so keen on. The Jinkx arc, although very well crafted, wasn't necessarily how things were (Jinkx has said so herself), but for the sake of great TV it absolutely worked. It's right that the Violet one didn't work in the same way, but that's largely because they tried to force it, and because she is simply a lot less likeable than Jinkx on every level. Rather than complaining that we were told about Violet's softening or whatever, but never shown it, they shouldn't have bothered forcing that narrative. Just present us with what was happening. I didn't feel that Violet hadn't 'earned' her win because we didn't have the rehabilitation story arc. She earned it because overall she outperformed everyone, or at least the final three once she got there.

I didn't (and still don't) like Violet much, but I can't deny her aesthetic and some of those lewks. I don't need to like her or have some forced edit to make her look as bad as possible initially, followed by a fluffy rudemption story to make her win somehow palatable.

And I found criticising Sasha's victory over Shea a little odd, without acknowledging that the reason Sasha won is entirely due to the format of the final now.

And to pick up on COB's point, which also was given about 5 seconds in that video, the biggest issue of all is some pretty shit challenges repeatedly being forced on us, which often don't do anything to accurately reflect the talents of the queens themselves.

SO TRUE. It's so telling that Season 7 has arguably the most successful cast yet is seen as one of the weakest seasons.
I'm still not quite over them making a bunch of design/fashion queens do weekly scripted acting challenges, and then eliminating Kasha Davis who had clearly spent her whole life gearing up to give an iconic Snatch Game the episode before :D

It's become a bit like The Apprentice in that it seems designed for the entertainment of a queen failing, rather than letting us see them shine at what they are good at.

I agree that we need a break from All Stars, but I'm still enjoying and there's potentially some good narratives, talented funny queens and queens to hate. I'm in.

I honestly don't think that those queens seemed a drop in quality at all - I think it is just that people needed a break. Certainly no drop on Season 10. I'd be interested to see what we were all saying one episode into that season... probably exactly the same thing.

It’s almost cruel that Soju was even invited to compete.

apart from quite a bit of kameron hate and a couple of posters crying fatigue! we sound pretty excited about the season 10 opening. the link is in the similar threads if you're actually interested.

Season 10 was a better opening but fell flat half way through the season.

Season 6 and others had weak opening episodes but were great seasons ultimately so who knows.

I wish they’d cast fewer queens, Soju and Mercedes have no place there.

Kahana and Mercedes are both rubbish. Disposable as fuck queens whose wwhol careers revolve around standing around looking pretty

Thank goodness she had an oozing perineum of pus, because it's given her something to be remembered for.

I don’t know if this FATIGUE is clouding my judgement, but I got quite bored during the episode. I definitely didn’t rush to watch it as soon as it came out, there’s that, but still the cast has left me so uninspired.

Yvie, who is supposed to be the exciting concept queen looked more like a poor man’s The Princess, and that’s really not good. Another one whose name I forgot reminded me of a lesser version of Kennedy/Asia. Like you lot said, it feels like it’s already been done, but with more quality. I liked the Canadian, I guess.

Oh yes, Silky needs to shut the fuck up, odious character. How was she not sent home for Mimi Imfursting Miley?!

ATTITUDE CHECK
*crickets* :manson:

I fancy Nina a lot
WHAT? Out of drag?!

i thought nina was cute as a boy for a second but now i jut can't unsee her tempest dujouring doily down the runway, her elbows and knees seemingly bending backwards. i don't have much hope for her in terms of aesthetic or nerve anymore which is a shame as she seems so utterly lovely.
