Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated (new album)

it's a shit result for the person that should be the biggest pop girl in the world (tm).

Debuts at #26 in the UK.

Which isn’t actually that much of a dip on the previous album.
I assumed it wouldn’t chart. I gave up after 4 songs on Spotify. Will try again as reviews have been good and ameraal likes it so it must have something.

I anticipated top 5 I have to say. But on reflection a female pop star considered a one hit wonder by most people getting a top 30 album isn't the worst almost a decade after the event.

i'm kinda loony atm.

08 julien - aaaaah oooh blblbluhhh joooooh eeeeeeh etc
09 no drug like me - just really shimmery and fresh.
10 now that i found you - like i already said, this is up there with her classics for me now.
10 want you in my room - love the production, love the joy.
08 everything he wants - i don't know the original, i just find this fun.
07 happy not knowing - i think this will be my boy problems - good production but something about the lyrics in the chorus bugs me and makes it sound a bit flat.
10 i'll be your girl - no doubt meets something i can't put my finger on. what does this song remind me of so much? it's somehow the when i needed you of this album.
09 too much - the sentiment is stronger than the production (even though i like the latter as well).
09 the sound- the piano on the verses fucked the echoey effect on the chorus and i was born, mamma! love the i don't need the words i want the sound lyric. the middle 8 is the only bit that let's it down a bit.
08 automatically in love - that beat!
08 feels right - i loved this on first listen but i have a feeling the male vocal might start grating. it's ok but it is most definitely not carly and i want as much carly as i can get.
09 right words wrong time - britney featuring tinashe but carly rae. the sultry gem.
07 real love - i feel like i should like this more but it's not fully clicking yet and still feels like less than the sum of its parts.
06 for sure - i didn't mind this at first but now it feels like it doesn't go anywhere, it's like an overlong interlude.
10 party for one

considering what a cult hit emotion was, i think there was always gonna be goodwill towards her but she really has produced another wonderfully joyous and fresh album even if it doesn't show much evolution in her sound. it comes to life on headphones, well it did for me at least.

a couple of tracks less and a few extended instrumental bits and this would have been an absolute smash. now i think about i wish someone makes that happen immediately.

am giving Real Love only a 7 is so offensive.

It’s literally up there with Run Away With Me. An absolute 13.

BTW am I seeing you at Prima?!

I saw this bitch tonight, I enjoyed it in a 7/10 kind of way. Too many screaming queens, I never thought she'd have such a hardcore fanbase!

i'm trying, i'm trying.

it's a definite no for primavera sadly. it would've fulfilled all my pop fantasies what with carly and robyn but i have work):

I still don't feel ready to listen to this. I'm not e•motionally ready

hold it off then. it needs you to be ready for it, emotionally and physicarlyraejepseny.

i want to see her so much. she's back off to the us after a couple of weeks. really hope she does a few european dates in fall/winter. i feel like this is the perfect time in her career to see her. i've been hammeing the album like a proper carloon.

speaking of which i was watching an interview the other day and she said my most dreaded words: jazz album.

i can't stop listening to this album. i don't know if she just has fucking good timing or if my entire life follows the rhythm of carly rae jepsen, but i haven't felt quite so giddy since emotion.

the album is fantastic. i'm tempted to face it off with emotion but i feel like that needs a couple of weeks to be taken seriously.

also: how was party for one relegated to bonus track? it's so so great.

Only one and a bit plays in but what a light, summery joy of an album. It might not have the big pop moments to spare that Emotion did but it is still really good.

AUTUMN NOT FALL

I’ve spent my morning reliving this. She is just SO adorable. Such a great performer.

wow, she's really come a long way from THIS

STILL Agog 7 years later after I first watched it

:D That awkward af transition from "Call Me Maybe" to #90 smash "Tonight I'm Getting Over You"

the queen of product placement, poor fashion choices and uber uncool videos has struck again. this time it's for the amazing want you in my room.

That is quite a cute video. I like the band in the furniture and she looks great in her eighties black dress date look in particular.

yes! she looks amazing in the black dress. everything else needs to go in the bin.

i like the concept of the video (and the props) but the execution is a bit blah. it needs to be tighter and more focused in my mind. and by god the majority of the clothes...

i don't know why i was so pissy about the video, yes, it's uncool but i love it now.

She’s doing AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND but still won’t tour Europe.

Seriously what is wrong with her team.

I imagine they're waiting until Dedicated: Side B hits.

If this doesn't happen 2020 to be canceled altogether.

Spotify Singles release of Want You In My Room and a straight cover of Don't Speak:

ew. i hate this.

this was shaping up to be such a great day and then sanders, and now this.

*eats fourth donut leftover from last night's binge*

What a strange choice. Carly does karaoke with a style of music that doesn't suit her voice at all.
