I am around 30 minutes North of Stirling outside a small town called Auchterarder.

oh that's not that far from here! we're outside Gargunnock. went to the V&A in Dundee a few days back, bet your kid would love the exhibition on now (video games)

The Beatles were over rated.

Depends who is doing the rating. People who think they were the literal best thing ever (the original "stans") are usually people who refuse to listen to any music past the death of Jimi Hendrix.

I feel as if they're finding their level now - the boomers are dying out and an audience who grew up with austerity, climate change and Tory governments are finding them unimpressive - too blithely optimistic, lacking answers, escapist. They are being downgraded from God-like to An Excellent Group Who Split At Exactly The Right Time. Fair enough.

I have only been to the V&A once about a year ago. I was through that way a fair bit last year for meetings and a few renovations to properties. That actually sounds right up his street. I haven’t seen him since breakfast ( well lunchtime for us adults) as he has been playing video games in his room. I just had to google Gargunnock, it looks lovely. I have lived in Scotland for around 18ish years and I haven’t spent near enough time checking out the beautiful quaint villages.

@Mats have you been up the hill towards the castle in Stirling? I love it up that way. A cobbled road towards the castle with lovely quaint restaurants and pubs.

yup, Stirling's been our main hub since arriving from Edinburgh (we don't have a car). we've been wanting to do the walk up to the Wallace monument but sadly the weather hasn't been acting nice

no wonder Merkel is slowly collapsing. I bet she hasn't had an hour of sleep for the last 14 years

Yes it’s been pretty terrible, but I suppose to be expected being in Scotland. Wallace Monument is another great shout. Around Stirling and The Trossachs is probably my favourite part of Scotland, so you picked well.

That lad who wanted an apprenticeship with us yesterday has just emailed me again asking for another interview.

hi it's xxxxxxxxxx, i am sorry for an inconvenience i would be grateful if there is any way u could consider arranging another interview. urs thankful

He didn't even put capital letters on his first or last name! I know that if I wanted a job somewhere I wouldn't be emailing them in text language after yesterday's debacle.

Here's what I emailed to him, maybe I wasn't clear enough?

Thank you for your interest in our company, unfortunately we have decided not to proceed with your apprenticeship application at this time for the reason outlined below:

We are a small accounting company and it is extremely important that we can depend on the reliability of our staff. You notified us by email three minutes prior to your interview time that you would be late because you were attending a funeral. Had you informed us yesterday, or even contacted the office at 9 am today to let us know, I would have been willing to reschedule your interview at another time or date but your three interviewers were already seated at the table waiting for you when you sent notification. For this reason we cannot be confident in your reliability and do not wish to proceed further with your application.

May I take this opportunity to wish you well in your future endeavours.

Might have to try replying with "not bloody likely sunshine xxx"
