Never been one of my faves and nowadays I couldn’t care less if I never heard it again.

Great video mind.
 
The poll being the wrong way round is really making me feel a bit queasy.
 
It's sublime. It's effortless. It is NOT one of her best, but its just SOLID

Love it, the only Music single that felt like it represented the album AND the aesthetic. I always feel that if the video looks like the album artwork, it feels like THE single

Much like its parent album, it was never an instant favourite; its beauty and grandeur is subtle and took some time to manifest, and once it did it lingered to this day. :disco:

So I always imagined a 'Beautiful Killer' video to be the sequel to this vid...but with some sort of CHASE and guns

I'm fond. I prefer WIFLFAG but I agree that this one's simplicity makes it hold up so well nearly 20(!) years later. It is insane how that is the same time period between "Everybody" and this song at that time. The bad years have almost exceeded the imperial years :(
 
Not really they haven't. 2008-2018 is a shorter timespan than 1983-2008 the last time I checked, and -

Sorry but let's not rewrite history (as well intentioned as your point may have been) - Madonna's 'imperial' years as we all know were 1984-1991. Let's not get too millennial. The word 'imperial' gets thrown around willy nilly about too many artists and time periods but the 1984-1991 Madonna era is unparalleled by anyone, including her.

I do get Suedey's point though. ROL was more of a commercial "comeback". So between 1991-1997 she got lost in the mix (Evita withstanding, we're talking music) but after ROL and up to erm American Life she was back in the map (as in Billboard) getting hits, radio playing her music and tv playing her videos.
 
Yeah you can’t just equate Imperial with big, if we are talking about queens, you can only really be one once.

She had an imperious era though, some might say we are still in it
 
I do get Suedey's point too and there's no way you can argue 1984 - 1991 wasn't her definitive imperial era. I'm just not sure I agree you can only have one imperial era. Surely Kylie has had two? Light Years and Fever were more than just comebacks, and I'd argue the same about Ray of Light and Music. After all, the British monarchy took a little break between 1649 and 1660, food that make them any less imperial thereafter? (No I don't know where I'm going with this)
 
So if 1984-1991 was the imperial era and 2019 is knightood state then in 2000-2001 she must at least have been a Queen.

Which other female artist was bigger than her at that time? Britney?

So I'd have released as singles from Music:

1. Music
2. Don't Tell Me
3. Impressive Instant
4. Runaway Lover

It's actually not a very single-y album so anytime beyond the first 2 are a bit of a stretch. WIFLFAG would never have been released if I'd been in charge though, and certainly not its crappy video.
 
God I love Runaway Lover. People seem to shit on it a lot, but it's such swirly loveliness.
 
I never cared for Girl either, but the DWT version is spectacular (even with her pronunciation) and should have been the single (and album) version. Obvz Impressive Instant as the fourth single and summer hit it was always screaming to be.

Gone is one of my absolute favourites! So emotive and pure. I don't know if it would have made a good single but I'd have been delighted if she'd given it the nod

Sorry, I just find it really cliché and un-Madonna :( Die Another Day is how you do an action video!
 
The Music singles were fine, but Impressive Instant should have appeared somewhere, absolutely. The HORROR that we almost got Amazing was too much to bear...
 
I really could have done without the Guy Ritchie video in my life (or at least it could have been an 'alternate' video), but it's a small horror compared to what was just around the corner in terms of their collaborative work :zombie:

Of all the songs to force into a club remix, that wouldn’t have been high on my list

We watched the video over the weekend and said EXACTLY this.
 
The video and the remix were exceptional too. What was wrong is that the remix was never played on the radio (was it never released?), it would have done much better than the uncommercial original version.
 
Omg it’s Charlotte Gainsbourg?! I loooove her speaking voice, I just listened to her on the Adam Buxton podcast (which is hit and miss despite loving Adam & Joe)
 
I'm afraid it just reminds me of TWATS in COWBOY HATS. And an interminable debate about WHO WORE A COWBOY HAT FIRST :zombie::manson::boring:
