Considering the amazing stuff that’s been coming out of the vault since he carked it, all I can say about this is YAYYYYYYY!

On November 29th the Prince Estate, in partnership with Warner Records, will reissue Prince's landmark album 1999, remastered for the very first time, along with 35 previously unreleased tracks from Prince's legendary vault.

Considered one of the most iconic and influential double albums in rock history, #Prince1999 was released at a major turning point in the Prince's career. After years of struggling to break out of the R&B charts, he scored major crossover hits with "Little Red Corvette" and "1999." The success helped Prince to introduce his iconic Minneapolis Sound to the world: a revolutionary blend of rock, funk, R&B and new wave pop that shattered barriers in the industry.

The songs on 1999 were just a small sampling of the work pouring out of Prince in this intensely prolific period. In addition to his own material, he was also working up tracks to give to his protégés Vanity 6 and The Time, and storing countless unreleased songs in his vault.

Many of those unreleased tracks are included in the Super Deluxe Edition of the 1999 reissue, and on November 29 they will be heard by the public for the very first time.

“I didn’t want to do a double album, but I just kept writing," Prince told Rolling Stone in 1982. "I always compare songwriting to a girl walking in the door. You don’t know what she’s going to look like, but all of a sudden she’s there.”

In addition to the remastered album and studio tracks from the vault, the Super Deluxe Edition includes two complete live performances from the 1999 Tour: an audio recording captured on 11/30/82 in Detroit; and a video recording from 12/29/82 in Houston, presented on DVD.

In the liner notes for the Super Deluxe Edition, Rolling Stone critic David Fricke calls the 1999 reissue “an unprecedented immersion in the frenetic momentum and private working world of Prince in 1981 and 1982."

The Super Deluxe Edition features Prince's never-before-seen handwritten lyrics from the era, tape reels from the legendary vault, and rare photography from #AllenBeaulieu, plus liner notes by longtime Rolling Stone critic David Fricke, revered Guns N' Roses bassist and author Duff McKagan, and Prince scholars Andrea Swensson and Duane Tudahl.

The 1999 reissue will be available in Super Deluxe and Deluxe Editions, and as a stand-alone remastered album. It will be issued on LP, CD, and digital formats on November 29.

10LPs and 5CDs in a super deluxe edition is going to cost a fucking fortune, though...

Pity as I’ve been buying the super deluxe of his so far

No Extralovable? :(

But Do Yourself A Favor is one of my all time favourite unreleased Prince tracks.

Is most of the unreleased stuff out there in fan world anyway, @Ellie ? It’s exciting for a non- loon fan like me but not sure for others...

I've only bothered ordering The Versace Experience from the ones coming out this week. I don't need Emancipation or Chaos & Disorder again, just with purple vinyl. No idea where I'd put them.

They're pretty much all very well known. I don't know much compared to the super super fans, but I'm interested in the alternate versions of Something In The Water, because the version he started playing live in 2014 was so brilliant, I want to know if the arrangement was new then or not.

I haven’t bothered with any of the later stuff but I might get The Versace Experience. I don’t need the others- I never play the CDs anyway...

Oh less exciting for many then. I’m excited though!

I still play that “new” Purple Rain disc like an individual album ALL THE TIME.

I don't know WHY the long version of DELIRIOUS was never officially released

Surely it's either/or, no? a 10LP set or a 5CD set? Otherwise, that's a pisstake.

It’s listed on Amazon US for 249 USD, so seems legit.

You can get the 5CD set too, separately...there’s a plethora of options.

That's more like it...I think the 5CD set will go like the proverbial - 2 full CDs from the archives? I'm very much a casual fan but YES PLEASE.

I remember buying the first CD of this which left D.S.M.R. off as it was TOO LONG.

I'll be up for this as the second CD of the Purple Rain reissue is as good as @Sheena says. I'm not overly bothered about extended versions or edits bar a solitary listen out of curiosity, but the actually fully fledged tracks are superb.

It's a single guy putting together this stuff who I believe is a full time hire by Prince's estate. He's doing an amazing job so far. @Ellie do you know if he was responsible for that "Anthology: 1995-2010" compilation? It's finally enabled me to make some sort of sense of those messy later years. I never bothered with much at all after the Love Symbol album as there was just too fucking much to wade through, lots of rather dubious quality.

I can't help but think that Warners did have his best interests at heart in the 80s, as much as he would disagree himself :D

Prince's Extended Versions are generally WONDERFUL- aren't they for the most part the full versions, which he then edited down for the albums?

I've no bother with a single edit, mind, but that's ok- I understand pleasing those who do.

True true, there are in fact some amazing extended versions of Prince songs. I was thinking more in terms of general deluxe reissues when I wrote that.

I’m not all that keen on some of the extended versions. Like I Would Die 4 U is one of my fav songs and the album version is far too short, but do I need a version that lasts for HALF AN HOUR? No, just an extra few minutes and a new verse would do.

I didn’t really buy any of those compilations as I don’t need them, so I haven’t been paying much attention on that front.

Yeah there were some shit ones with bits that had just been STUCK IN or ON like MOUNTAINS and all that COUGHING in Raspberry Beret

Yeah, but Raspberry Beret is one of those pop songs that is just PERFECT as a 3 minute pop song. You just don't NEED anything else.

By the way has @Ellie or anyone else read this:

I just downloaded it ready for my HOLS. Looks geeky enough to satisfy my current craving for all things Prince...

Fucking HELL at that :disco:

It's already brilliant to start with and then kicks off to another level around 4 minutes in. I was trying to catch him giving signals to the band as to where the song was going but it's hard to tell. It's unbelievably tight for something he played around with so much. Shame they missed his fireman's pole entrance though :D

I never realised that the blonde woman in this and in the song's video is Jill Jones. Or that she was the waitress in Purple Rain :o

So when did Wendy come on board? It must have been shortly after this.

I think Wendy came in just at Purple Rain time, which I saw at the cinema again yesterday for a 35th Anniversary.

Apart from the parents and Apollonia, the rest of the entire cast are Prince associates. Even the doorman at the start was his actual bodyguard.

The CD version of the set is about £67. Ugh.

I have just been able to justify it as yesterday my brother just offered to pay me half for a planned birthday outing I had for mum, so he could tag along and say it was from both of us. Works out as about a £80 saving on my part now :D

Oh I’ll buy but I might wait until it goes a bit cheaper, as it inevitably will. I want it ALL!

Yeah, it's great! Really been enjoying it.

I can't decide what to do about the box set, though. I really want the vinyl but it's super, super expensive. I wonder if it will ever hit a sale...
