I love DOCTORIN THE TARDIS and I don't care. Anything that nicks the YOU WOT YOU WOT YOUWOTYOUWOTYOUWOT from Steve Walsh's awful version of I Found Lovin' and puts it in a DALEK VOICE is a winner with me

HOWEVER it's no KYLIE SAID TO JASON which is the LOST HIT OF '89

 
Don't Call Me Baby sounds just as glorious as ever. A shoulda been top ten massive hit if I ever heard one.

We're about to miss three editions of Top Of The Pops. Not because some presenter has been noncing it up with kids but due to the fact that the BBC have the wrong recording of the show in their archive and all have problems with the audio in places. Back then when there was a live edition two versions used to be made, one with mainly full presenter links and a lack of captions and one with the version that was broadcast. The first version was only saved for a few months. The wrong ones are in the archive as the BBC deleted the broadcast version!

Needless to say the right editions are turning up on the internet... they are the off-air versions.

Typical - I was on holiday when these episodes were originally shown and the BBC have denied me the chance to right this wrong!

Catching up with a few old episodes now. I don't remember Five Star's 'raunchy new image' as being quite so tragic at the time.

"The King Of Rock & Roll" still goes off. Cracking song.

"All my lazy teenage boasts are now high-precision ghosts" is surely one of the most unusual opening lines to a UK hit single. Not to mention the chorus...
 
Sorry but "Got To Be Certain" is crap. Sounds awful now as well, so bingly-boingly.
 
Blimey, "Bad Young Brother" actually sounds decent. Was moved to hit up Wikipedia and have learned that the poor guy died of a heart attack in 2009.
 
"Somewhere In My Heart" is still pretty damn great as well. Was that Aztec Camera's biggest hit?
 
Poor Billy Bragg - in his authorised biography, he says the producer hated him and refused him a 2nd take despite his obviously botching the words.

Mind you, that wall of televisions was a decent staging idea for singers who turned up on their own. Ofra Haza looking pleased if slightly bewildered. Good tune, that.
 
Was Hothouse Flowers not Eurovision related? Something tells me Ireland hosted that year and their video was played during the broadcast or something...anyway, I didn't like this at the time and I still don't. Worthier-than-thou "real music" bollocks.

Scritti Politti's brand of super-clean pop-soul was always on a fine line - a millimetre on the wrong side and the results were just bland. This Oh Patty thing is an absolute bore that even a Miles Davis trumpet solo can't rescue.

Fucking appalling, wasn't it? I remember not liking it (or her particularly at the time), but that is one horrid vocal.
 
Yaas, The Timelords. I was already into The JAMs/The KLF having nabbed a couple of singles and the Who Killed The JAMs" album and the sheer joy of seeing them on TOTP with such a ridiculous record was a treat indeed.

There was, at the time, no anticipation of what would follow from them and, at this point, the notion that Bill Drummond would become the very thing he tried to manage so many other artists into - a genuine pop star and regular Top 10 hitmaker - was thoroughly unimaginable.

Also, fun to see Woody from Madness back on TOTP while his former colleagues were flopping with a thoroughly overwrought album which had been hatched behind his back, the group's "split" basically being a way of getting rid of him and bassist Mark Bedford.
