Sunday serves up pie for lunch

FISH PIE to be precise. It’s a lot tastier than it sounds.
 
When I was in Morrisons on Friday, the freezer section had packs of "Fish Pie Mix" and it looked like the contents of a seaside bin.
 
My body clock is totally fucked now, took about 3 days to go haywire and is now shambolic. I'll need to make this the sacrificial night and set my alarm for tomorrow morning.
 
I always think I'd love fish pie but so many of the ready made ones have hidden cheese in them and I can't be faffed to make one for myself because Mr F would just complain I stank the house out with fish. It takes him weeks to stop complaining whenever I make kedgeree.

I had melon for breakfast and am having last night's leftover spring rolls for my dinner. Tea will be jacket potatoes with bacon and onion because it's a bit chilly outside and we're still experimenting which meals are "safe" for Mr F's gallbladder.
 
I used to quite enjoy a nice piece of fish, I must say. I liked my fish two ways: 1) steamed with half a lemon and served with fresh greens and 2) fried in batter with chips at 2am. No 2 was experienced far more often.
 
I make it from scratch. A fish pie mix sounds far from appetising. :D

It’s actually my Grandmothers recipe and it is delicious with lots of nice chunky fish, and cheese.
 
Battered or breadcrumbed fish doesn't really do it for me. I tend to pan fry it (what a ridiculous modern term - what else do you fry it in?), or roast it foil.

I think the term evolved with the proliferation of deep fat fryers and has somehow stayed on despite the fact that you barely see deep fat fryers now.
 
I must say I do rather enjoy cooking big hearty meals when we are heading in to the colder weather. It was between fish pie and Stirling stew but as I bought a load of fresh fish on Friday I decided to go for the former. Not too long and it will be time to start making big pots of soup to feed the 5000 ( well my son and his friends).
 
I must dig the slow cooker out. Nothing like coming home from work in the dark to a lovely stew waiting for you.
 
The fish pie was a TRIUMPH. I am pretty sure you have all been waiting with baited breath to hear how it all went. :side-eye:
 
I had a jigsaw on the table that I've been doing for months now, a bit at a time, and the only pieces left were variations on white (most of the sky part) so I've been avoiding it. At half past four I thought I'd just get down to it and finish it off. Suddenly here we are at 7 o'clock and I've finished the jigsaw but didn't make tea because I couldn't see the clock and I really thought it was only about half past five. Oops.

Its very strange! I've been scouring the net for info, but details are limited at the moment. I assumed DRUGS but seemingly not.

I tend to cook far too much of anything as I usually don’t have a big portion. I only cooked for 4 tonight and am often accused of trying to fatten people up as I tend to pile what I make on to other’s plates. Today it was a case that there’s only so much I can pile on to others plates. :D
 
I have an elderly couple who live a few minutes walk away so I shall bring up the remainder for them to feed on tomorrow.

Surely the one in the car killed the other two then topped themselves...
