Saturday gets a thread whether it likes it or not

Probably not since they became a thing. We never had them at all originally, though.

I don't recall how they started or who started them. I have had a couple of off-Moopy spells, unless it happened during one of those...

I suspect it was very much in the early days of Moopy. I remember we'd have evening threads as well. They'd often get into 100s of posts in our hey day.

I think very early on we didn't need them. We were so busy, and if people had a thought, that pretty much was a thread on its own. It was only when things got quieter a bit later on that they became the main thread.

I remember that on Dotmusic, for sure - there was essentially daytime and evening posters.

Pretty sure I did a weekend thread instead of individual daily ones once. Streak already broken.

Just how busy was it in the early days? I never joined until 2012, I guess it had peaked way before then.

I imagine we hit in a day the number of posts we get in a week now. And then some.

Well forums generally have been slowly dying over the years as social media takes over. Though I think the fact that so many people have left and we hardly ever get new members who stick around is probably the main reason why we're much quieter these days.

How many of that list are still actively posting? You'll be lucky if it's half.

It probably is about half, although some in a very reduced capacity.

Well, I mean all of us are at a very reduced capacity, obviously. But some relatively more so than others. It's just the way it is. The fact we have so much history is remarkable.

My post count remains pretty similar, oddly.

The more posts there are, the more there is to which one can potentially reply - volume breeds volume. Also, forums and newsgroups were how the community aspect of the internet worked pre-Facebook and Twitter. Myspace seemed to work alongside forums rather than replace them because conversation didn't happen via myspace (RIP MSN Messenger).

Ah, this is bringing back memories of when the internet was still fun.

Speaking of smilies - when I was fixing the broken ones (up yours Photobucket), I did consider disabling Rustie and Su what with them being a pair of Brexiters. Too partisan?

I have no issue with this.

I'd also prefer it if the 'old moopy smilies' could be the default, rather than the new ones.

I'll have a fiddle about and see if the old smilies can be the default.

Right...I see how this is done...essentially uncatergorised smilies come first, the categories...so I need to move the classics out of the folder and move the new ones into a new folder. Which has to be done individually.

That means nothing to me :D

But if it's too much faff, don't worry about it.

Also, I have the master of my new album to listen to, so that's a spare 40 minutes right there.

I’ve felt for a while that they’re respectively shorthand for Comedy Black Person and Comedy Mentally Ill Person, neither of which particularly appeals, although I do acknowledge that they’re not necessarily used for those exact purposes by fellow chat loungers. Still, Kipper and Brexiteer? BYE GIRLS

I'm in a MINORITY I'M SURE but I don't think we should even have got rid of HITLER
