Morning Moopy!

I've been for a 6k run, a swim in the sea (it was freezing but invigorating), done two loads of washing, tidied the flat and am now downloading some new music before going off to my Mum's lunch for the first time she's going to have had to cope with me as a vegetarian. I am expecting lamb gravy and pigs in blankets at the very least. HAPPY SUNDAY!

Secondly, why the fuck is GRAMMARLY now on this computer when I type on Moopy? Because I certainly didn't actively install the FUCKER and I CERTAINLY don't need GRAMMARLY!
 
How did you manage to do all of that today Shee? I’m only just waking up. Oh and swimming in this sea in this weather? *gets hypothermia at the mere thought of that* :zombie:

I woke up at 6 and just got up and on with it. I'm a proper morning person. Unfortunately, I'm also a night person, which means I NEVER sleep as much as I should. Sleeping is just a waste of time for me.

It was properly cold. I'm going to keep braving it for a few more times before getting the wetsuit out, but my intention is to keep going all winter. It's good for my mental health to be in the sea- always feel so good.

Me, this morning. Very cold and shrunk small penis out of shot.

(I do have really long arms. I'm quite tall but it's all in the body, my legs aren't long...)
 
That really is an impressive list of things done by 9.30am on ANY day let alone a Sunday.

One by one my friends have cancelled on the lunch we were meant to be going out to today so it's going to be a chilled one instead.

There is EQUALLY nothing wrong with LAZY SUNDAYS. That's kind of the POINT.

The wind yesterday blew over a huge shrub in the front garden, and it's now blocking the pavement, so we need to go out and move that before a child runs into the road and gets knocked over.

In other news I was convinced by a friend to eat Indian for the first time in over 20 years last night when we ate out. That was a mistake. Inedible, bitty slurry which tasted like hot dirt. And this morning my bowel is paying for it.
 
God, I cannot imagine the HORROR of not liking curry
 
It's a shame because the restaurant was quite lovely. It's a new one, highly reviewed, and for some reason I thought I'd give it a go - that my taste buds may have changed and I ought to try again.

But I hate how curry looks and smells. I'm just annoyed with myself for agreeing to go.

Some beautiful naan, papadum and dips though.
 
Thing is, though Indian food is very varied, there's no getting away from that, well, I can't describe it more than CURRYNESS :D

Most other foods you can find SOMETHING you like in...
 
Also still in bed. Ron Jr must be growing or something as he's started sleeping in until 9 every morning, he used to be up around 6:30 - 7. I approve of his snoozing.
 
It seems the actual worst of that bastard cold is behind me after I produced about four litres of snot yesterday but I now have this strangulated cough.

I thought I'd try to choose fairly wisely, and went for a biryani (thinking 'well that's a bit like a risotto or a paella', isn't it?) and asked for it very mild. Chili for me is just empty, searing heat which utterly destroys any element of flavour it touches. But I don't even really like black pepper that much, and I don't like fenugreek or cumin at all - to me both taste like dirt. Then add the texture and it really is just like eating mouthfuls of slurry.

I irritate myself not liking it. It pisses me off that I dismiss it. I guess I just need to accept the fact that as the fiftiness is rapidly crashing upon me, that's just ME and it isn't ever going to change now. At least I tried.

And if ever I go into an Indian restaurant again, just stick with breads and dips.

I'm currently in such an Indian food phase in my life, I'll have some at least once a week. It's a shame it's not as much of a thing as it is in the UK.
 
See, I love hot food, but I generally don't pick a hot curry- because it's just too overwhelming and, you're right, just tastes like HEAT rather than flavour.

I'm hosting a European conference of translation agencies locally to me in a few weeks and I've been trying to get traditional "British" food in where I can, as is the norm when we do the equivalent in my colleagues' home countries. Curry entirely overlooked me until someone BEGGED me to take everyone for one!

I think it's just a question of degree. I identify heat over flavour a lot earlier than most other people.

At the other end of the spectrum though it has its benefits. I can't understand why some people describe some food as bland, when I can taste layers of flavour within it.

Mr Sheena loves all kinds of foods, so I can't moan, but occasionally he'll make something so bland I don't understand how he can eat it and he's entirely fine with it.

I need food to have a lot of depth in flavour. It's one of the reasons why I don't think I'll ever be vegetarian 100%- that depth you get with meat and meat based things is massively hard to replicate...

But I would say (and from the sounds of it Mr Shee) that food DOES have depth of flavour - you're just not sensitive to it. I'm not choosing to eat something I find bland. I love flavour, as I experience it.

At the other end of the scale, I'm sure when I describe food as having no flavour and just being empty heat, other people must be finding something else.
 
Regarding the vegetarian thing, one of my friends said she found using seaweed powder a lot in her cooking gave her something she felt she was always missing from meat.
 
I;ve never been a curry fan either - I like to enjoy my food rather than see it as a challenge. That said, I can take a reasonable chilli.

On the hot food subject I've noticed that chillies affect people very differently. As a "for instance" Mr F loves food the hotter the better (or he used to) and will happily choose a madras or vindaloo curry but I always go for a Korma or at most something medium hot because I just can't handle when my gob starts burning. When he makes jerk chicken we use scotch bonnets and he complains there aren't enough while I sit there with a burning mouth and my eyes watering complaining there are too many. When I make chicken and noodles I use a sweet chilli sauce that, to me, has no heat whatsoever (I've fed it to children with no problem) but he sits there sweating cobs and fanning his open mouth. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
 
I wouldn't call myself a heat queen but i do like a bit spice. Usually go for medium curries.

However i fucking love the nasal burn wasabi gives.
 
I went to Nandos for the FIRST TIME EVER on Friday and was advised by various people to have my chicken medium for the first time in case hot was too hot for me. I ended up spraying it with that black extra hot sauce from the bottle to give it a bit of a bite. and the wing roulette was super mild for us. Even the boy who basically only eats BEIGE FOOD tried them and said they weren't that bad.
 
I don't really like Indian curries much which is annoying as they often have the best vegetarian options. I do like the starters and side dishes though, and I can take a korma or maybe a chasni but I'm not sure if it's the coriander or cumin or other spices they use but I'm just not that into it. I did like a paneer one I had a while ago but now I've also cut most dairy out so that's not a choice anymore. I much prefer Chinese/Thai/Malaysian etc food.

Or is it just because nothing tastes much of anything at all unless you add chilli to it?

Or BOTH, I suppose.
