Yeah, it's early for a daily thread. Winter Solstice tho' - it's a big deal in my house, y'knaa?

Anyway, blessings etc.

I like how my Birthday is the first day when the days start to get longer again...

Morning.

Awake at 5:30 again. I don’t mind in the summer but it truly is a miserable time to be awake in the winter.

HI! I'm keeping RIGHT OUT of those other discussions that are going on. Who wants to talk about COCK and KYLIE like OLD TIMES? :) :disco:

Yes January and February are such a notorious pleasure, with all those luxurious long days.

I have an app that shows the time of sunset, and it is nice to see it getting later each day, even if it is only by a minute each day.

Getting home from work when it's light is always the big one for me, and I don't think that usually happens until about March, though :(

I'm reading them as I don't want my ignorance to be any excuse. But I freely admit they are fucking with my head.

I'm off to Norway today which is even DARKER than here, God what am I doing. at least there's no snow this year...

Nothing but cleaning today to get ready for visitors tomorrow :(

I'm getting irritated as I would like to play some music throughout the place while we do it, but despite the fact that I won an Amazon Echo last week in the work Christmas raffle and I have hooked it up to all the living room speakers and connected it to everyone's subscription accounts, my flatmate is more content listening to shitty sounding tinny music on her phone. WHY?

Isn't it? I thought it was the 22nd every year. On digging, Wikipedia says it is usually 21st or 22nd.

3 years out of 4 it's the 21st in the UK. When it;s the 22nd, it's early in the morning. The extra day in a leap year resets it so it'll be the 21st again, sometime late morning.

I've popped on "Kylie Christmas". Snow Queen edition. Bit random, innit? I wonder how long Iggy Pop took to do his bit? 40-50 seconds?

Hello all. I haven’t been sick since last night and this morning just feel like I have a bad hangover which is BEARABLE so things are looking UP.

I need to shine the @Floppet signal, my kitchen sink is draining almost imperceptibly slowly. I’ve just chucked some of that drain unblocker gunge down it, but it doesn’t seem to be any different.

bear in mind that I’ve just moved in and I haven’t really used the sink so far, and there’s a catcher thing so I don’t think I’ve blocked it up myself. Is there ANY reason that there’s some valve I have to open? That seems unlikely and I can’t see anything

Is this a foreign sink?! My skills are only for English sinks.

That being said, if there's a u-bend or trap underneath put a washing up bowl underneath and unscrew it, clear out all the gunk (don't run any water into the sink though!) then screw it back on (leave the washing up bowl underneath in case you haven't screwed it back tight enough) and see whether that's made a difference.

My father-in-law has brought me a three-litre BOX of PERRY for Christmas :D

Ooh I feel CLASSY

It's lucky I'm not EASILY OFFENDED that's ALL IMMA GONNA SAY

yeah it’s a Japanese one, which I’m sure normally have U-bends too, but this is an old place I guess. There seemed to be some gurgling so maybe that stuff worked a bit

Your best bet is to use proper old fashioned caustic soda if you can get hold of it but those drain unblockers usually contain it as their active ingredient (NaOH). They don't work as quickly but should do the job on fat and grease (which are usually what kitchen clogs are). Try pouring boiling water down afterwards too.

I bought caustic soda years ago on Floppet's advice, but have always been too scared to use it. I'm convinced I'm going to dissolve the whole kitchen.

You won't. I love it, it's one of my favourite cleaning products. Obviously I don't follow the instructions on the tub (or even wear gloves) but if you do you'll be safe. The drain under our bath gets clogged up with my long hair even though I clear it out of the plughole every time I use either the bath or shower. I just pour raw caustic down the plughole and then one or two deodorant-spray lids full of cold water then I put the bathplug in, turn on the hot tap to a trickle so the bath starts filling up with red-hot water. After five minutes I just pull out the plug and the hot water flushes out any hair clogs.

Caustic's dangerous but I used to be a scientist so I know how to handle it and what's safe use in conjunction with it too dontchaknow.

Thought that was the 21st

Well, either way, merry winter.

Off to a finger food buffet later, MY ONE TRUE WEAKNESS

@octophone can this be added to our smilies?

Oh I simply adore it. An exquisite festive treat. Votes cast!

Still, must stop there. As I always (:side-eye:) say, the post count ends at three until I return as me :disco:
