Veganism is a protected philosophical belief

I believe they have a bean burger which is cooked on a different grill. The problem seems to be that their marketing isn't sufficiently clear that this isn't supposed to be a vegan option.

Yes, absolutely this. And they launched it in Veganuary- that’s no mistake! They’ll claim otherwise but it’s deliberately misleading...

I don't understand the concept of a vegan meal in Burger King, IN BURGER KING! What's next, a brothel in the Vatican?
No real vegan would go there to have lunch, so I don't see why they'd use another grill.

It so isn’t about whether a vegan chooses to go there or not. They are promoting something to vegans and vegetarians that then isn’t (technically) so, through a loophole.

As another example, I know loads of people, including vegans, who will go and get chips after a night out from a kebab shop, which is about as meaty as you can get. The expectation is that those chips are cooked separately from any meat. It’s HOW IT IS.

I have an intolerance to caffeine and I asked about a sauce in the Harvester some years back and whether it actually contained cola and asked if my food could be prepared without it. When it was brought to me, they went to great lengths to say they had prepared it on a separate grill and that there was no chance of my “allergy” being affected.

If a Harvester can manage that, I fail to see why Burger King and the suchlike can’t or shouldn’t have to particularly whilst trying to rinse the green pound...

It's more societal pressures - picture it: you're young, you're just out of the cinema w/ yer pals and someone says "let's go to Burger King" - you don't want to be the one that goes "guys we can't go there cos I'm vegan now", you want to be able to go "cool, I can have the vegan burger". That's why it's a middle finger; it's saying - "there's money to be made from plant-based stuff but you lot can still fuck off. Go cry into your almond milk".

Oh I know its greenwashing at its best, they aren't doing it because they care, they're doing it because its de rigueur. I suppose I hadn't considered it from that point though.

Supposedly cooking on a different grill isn't an option because they want to offer the 'flame grilled taste'. Whixh presumably means they don't think enough people will buy it if they can't taste beef fat.

A vegan friend of mine has just posted how she would never go into Burger King anyway, but if this gets more people eating less meat, it's a good thing.

I suppose from that perspective, it works.

I mean it doesn't state it's vegetarian or vegan, but it does state '100% Whopper, no beef'. It's not REALLY 'no beef' if it has beef juice, is it? Or perhaps legally it is?

they do this with sugar free Tic Tacs in the US (maybe here too). They’re actually mostly sugar, but the amount of sugar per SERVING is small enough to be allowed to be legally advertised as sugar free, because the ‘serving’ size is so tiny

There's deffos an argument for this angle too. I haven't eaten beef for ages now, mainly because the alternatives are there and tasty enough to satisfy my needs.

I see that Subway are now doing a Meatless a Meatball Marinara sub. However while it technically might only contain vegan products, the servers put their fingers in meat and then into the veg when making the subs, so the veg is likely to be contaminated.

I might be an ignorant in this matter (I eat pretty much everything, even when it's true I eat a lot less meat that I used to), but isn't this taking things a bit too far? It's not like you're going to get poisoned. You won't taste it, you're not eating anything non vegan, so why being so strict about it? I don't get it. To me is like saying you wouldn't drink any water in contact with a plastic bottle because that's not eco-friendly.

I'm not veggie, but if I was (for ethical reasons) I think I would be upset if I saw someone's meaty fingers making my sandwich.

Because people REALLY like to be PEDANTIC about ANYTHING THEY CAN. God it gets on my TITS

CONTAMINATED

It's a bit of chicken, not soil from Fukishima.

Anyway, food regs have been around longer than millennial vegans, they would use gloves to make each sandwich, and swap gloves between sandwiches. I'd imagine a franchise like Subway even insists on separate knives to cut the footlongs.

Even though they are shit, I want a subway now.

Subway is rank- they have separate gloves between sandwiches, yes, but they do dip from one place to another with the same gloves per sandwich- everything is kept in huge pots.

Again, wouldn’t bother me personally, but I can see why vegans wouldn’t want to eat there.

It's like people who FUSS about VEGETARIAN CHEESE and WINE

Life's too SHORT

WARNING: unpopular post here.

I understand why someone would go veggie or vegan, good for them, but I just couldn't. Life is hard enough to torture myself like that. We have to eat 3 times per day all our life, so I try to enjoy it as much as I can. I love cooking, I love trying new things, and I'm not going to limit myself to bird seed and have a miserable life because I think I'm saving the planet. I do my bit in other fields, and I do a lot.
The few vegans I know in real life are very bitter persons that are obsessed with it and are always complaining about anything. It doesn't look like if they enjoy life at all. Not for me, thanks.

Do you eat meat 2-3 times a day? I used to, but I eat it maybe 1-2 times a week now, I only eat free range/welfare meat, and I've stopped eating beef and pork. I really enjoy plant based food, its a lot more exciting than I thought. I like cheese though, so fuck being vegan.

But that's always gonna happen unless it's a vegan only place. Someone is going to be bothered because the cutlery is being washed in the same dishwasher or they are sharing the same AIR. If you're a hardcore vegan, do not going to a place like that, I think this vegan stuff is what @octophone explained very well in a previous post.

Handling meat and directly then handling vegetables that could be part of a vegan meal is very different to something being washed and rinsed in a dishwasher that might have meat in it!

I think accidental meat rubbage in BK or Subway is the least you have to worry about. You can guarantee that at least 50% of the employees there are unlikely to wash their hands after a shit.

Actually, is shit vegan?

No!

I only eat vegetables from which every single bacterium has been carefully removed without killing it and set free to live a free-range natural life :)

Indeed. Subway is FUCKING RANK. I don't understand the fuss AT ALL. Their bread also smells like SICK when its cooking.

I eat meat or meat products 3 times a day because otherwise I'd be a lightheaded, starving, ADHD mess in an hour. Meat can be substituted for fish as well of course, sometimes eggs or dairy. Eggs and bacon with kidney beans for breakfast and I can be FOCUSED and CALM and go without food for hours.

You JEST but I did enjoy the quote from the original article that the bloke who won this case "will, for instance, walk rather than take a bus to avoid accidental crashes with insects or birds." :D/:manson: NEWSFLASH: there are also insects on the PAVEMENT!

I assume he's like one of those monks that sweep the ground as he walks.

Anyway, new vegans are the worst for being self-righteous bellends. My friend who has been vegan for 30 years couldn't give a shit what anyone else does.

God no, and we don't eat any meat for breakfast at all. I meant we eat 3 times a day, in general. And I probably eat non vegan products every single time

In other HOT VEGAN CHAT NEWS, I've just had "This isn't Chicken" fake tikka pieces and they are truly gorgeous and the best fake meat product I think I've yet found.

I know Subway is shit, but I'm under no illusions that I'm going to find a decent meal in the food court of the outlet mall by work, so I tried the meatless meatball marinara yesterday, and it was perfectly pleasant. I did substitute the vegan cheese for real cheese however, because vegan cheese tastes like it was made from the fermented milk of the devil's teet,

Oh, I've never heard of these! Where did you get them from?

I had some Vegan Smoked Sausage the other day which was AMAZING, from Tesco, it's from the 'Like Meat' range, their schnitzels are good too. Tesco also have their own vegan range now. In the past 12 months the meat substitutes market has exploded, when I went veggie in 2008 there was hardly anything apart from Quorn Mince and Pieces.

But meat substitutes creates extra pollution by being manufacturing. Also fake meat is made by people who made have had a Maccies for lunch!!!
