Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 2: Estonia, Italy & North Macedonia - RESULTS!

My good friend moved back to Leeds from Norway and a bunch of us went for a Sunday lunch, that turned into the pub, which turned into me waking up at 10.15am and shrieking “OH MY CHRIST!”

Fortunately I started work at 11. I think I’ve gotten away with it.
Now, I know I'm a puritan so I'm not best placed to talk about what constitutes fun, but the very idea of drinking when I've got work the next day brings me out in hives.

A wake is slightly more my speed. Over by six, decent buffet, and dancing is actively discouraged.

I’m almost starting to feel like I’m in a Jark countdown thread where you know the chances for a payoff are slim.

Estonia

10th: Malcolm Lincoln - Siren (41pts)

An OK song performed in the most off-putting way possible by this long-legged hipster weirdo. From Boris Johnson's class of '86 aesthetic to the incredibly awkward dancing, not to mention those fucking backing singers - nothing about this one worked. For all that, it is at least a quintessentially Estonian sort of failure, a microgenre we'll see a few examples of in this countdown...

1x 12 (Win_The_Game)
7x0 (Pingu, Jacques, Buttertart, Raining On Me, kevin7, David_5000, Ill Advised)

Actually VAGUELY OKAY, except for the fact that what at first sounds like an utterly brilliant bridge turns out to be the chorus and as an actual chorus it's DEAD ON ARRIVAL

WONDER WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE NOW

Looks a bit like H from Steps in that picture except with a more unpleasant hairdo and attractive Esthonian neckerchief

Please God let TANJA WIN. They’ve let her go at the Wimpy after some sort of PUBE INCIDENT and it’s all she has to live for :(

9th: Juri Pootsman - Play (42pts)

...case in point.

A slightly bewildering winner of one of the all-time great Estonian national finals, Juri Pooytsman had the look of a handsy creep who'd attempt to woo you in a darkened club by showing you a really cool card trick, then inevitably go home and cry alone while posting hateful things on the internet.

Like Siren, it's not a terrible song out of context, but the performance is all sort of "Thanks, but my boyfriend's at the other bar".

Highest mark: 6 (Win The Game)
4x0 (Penelope, Kalabaliken, Ag, VoR)

DISGUSTING. As it goes, a very dear friend of mine slept with him once in Tallinn and he does apparently carry a pack of playing cards with him everywhere he goes :D :gross:

8th: Victor Crone - Storm (68pts)

Another perfectly fine track, but really - outsourcing to Sweden feels so BENEATH Estonia in 2019.

Poor Victor had by far the most stressful rehearsal process in Tel Aviv last year, thanks to that stupid hologram gimmick that, try as they might, the Israeli production team just could not seem to get right. It was altogether too much window dressing for a super generic slice of beige anyway. Not a high watermark.

Highest: 8 (Pingu)
3x0 (Alla, ameraal, sewerynsven)

I wish Victor didnt have such shit hair. And the poor love looks like he's got a touch of the palsy there as well.
