TV Ratings 2020

Hard to really tell from 2012 due to the Olympics and football, but it does seems that it was 2012 or 2013 where the soaps really fell out of favour.

I wonder how many people actually watch the whole show for it to count as a view? If I'm home (and think we have been for at least three years), we'll turn over a few minutes before for the countdown, and then it's back to watching whatever it was after about 5 minutes.

The format is one that really suffers in the streaming, on-demand era. Bingeable series with high production values all made available in one go have outshone the soaps.

I think there's definitely some truth in the production values aspect - and that it may explain why EastEnders has been harder hit than Corrie. I imagine EE has a much younger audience who will be more likely to watch big budget Netflix/Sky dramas, whereas Corrie's older fan base will be more used to a more homely affair. Plus they are more likely to die off, anyway...

How many series is that of Silent Witness now? It must be over twenty. Crazy how it's so popular still.
 
Yes, there was quite a dip from the first episode to the second (Saturday and Sunday), but it pulled most of that back for the third.
 
Although both are still performing better than The X Factor, and that doesn’t seem to have been cancelled?
 
It's only a slight drop for The Voice. And I don't think that much is expected of it really - I get the impression that a reasonable figure is good enough for it.
 
Apparently the deal with Cowell is X Factor renewed for 2020 only, BGT until 2024.
 
I do still find The Voice enjoyable at the early stages. As the process moves on I start to lose a bit of interest.

I'm assuming the BBC will quietly pull the plug on The Greatest Dancer quite soon.
 
Are people enjoying The Trial Of Christine Keeler? I am, although due in no small part to it being filmed here and spotting the locations.

I do like the fact that the story is told more from her perspective. But it does irritate me that they have chosen an actress ten years (I think) older than Keeler was at the time. It would look even more horrific had they used a nineteen year old actress.

I believe so. The audition application process opened after the end of the last civilian season in 2018, so I’m not sure it actually means anything.

I watched it all, mainly because I knew the story well. I didn't realised she was that much older. I thought she looked a lot like the lovely Christine.

I didn’t get round to watching this. It started over the festive period and by the time I had got back it was more than half way through. Will set it up to download now.

It may well be because some years were heavily dominated by football or the Olympics. Take them out and a few may well have appeared.
 
The X Factor figure from the metro is higher than the one on the 2010 list.

Yes, you are right. The Top 8 in 2012 is all sports related.

I suspect it may well be due to how the charts have been compiled over the years and the inclusion (or not) of catch up, and then what window of catch up was counted. The metro list quoted BARB as the source, and I copied the individual lists from the BARB website.

From the limited amount I have seen of the real Christine she did look older than her age at the time and she and Sophie Cookson kind of meet in the middle, as I don't think she looks 29 in the programme. I've also appreciated how she has been placed at the centre of the story, though James Norton's performance in the last episode has stolen the show thus far despite the difference in age (and attractiveness) between him and Ward. Hopefully Christine is given similarly strong material in the closing instalment.

There's a new documentary on BBC2 afterwards this week too.

Yes, it doesn’t seem to have had quite the buzz surrounding it that it did in the Summer. Still massive figures for itv2 though.
