10th: PeR - Here We Go (39pts)

Oh, the indignity of landing at the bottom of the barrel from THIS SHOWER

To be fair though, of all Latvia's anti-musical entries, this is probably the one that does the least to distinguish itself from your bog-standard semi final filler that any country might fart out. Aims for rousing, lands on BASIC.

Fun fact, as the opener of the first semi final at Eurovision 2013, this is the first Eurovision song I ever saw live in the arena. This has not endeared me to it.

9th: Aarzemnieki - Cake to Bake (60pts)

Jaunty novelty fare from the depths of Latvia's 'give a fuck' years with the faint air of an insufferable group of music students being 'ironic'.

In lieu of interesting things to say about this entry, I'll tell a little story. I first met somebody who is now a good Eurovision pal when I spotted him in the arena after the Semi where this NQ'd, dressed in a full Latvian chef costume complete with bakers hat with embroidered flag, sobbing like he'd just found out his parents had died. I knew at once we'd be friends.

8th: Carousel - That Night (69pts)

A heavy-lidded Norah Jones pastiche that came and went in last year's semi final without leaving even a hint of an impression.

It's a nice song and all that, and I do enjoy her voice, but definitely fell on the wrong side of boring for Eurovision. Common Linnets have inspired a fair few of these types of entries I feel.

Quite decently produced actually slice of heterosexual lyrical nonsense. Love me with luscious thighs INDEED!

The singer definitely looks a bit of a sexual nuisance, but on the whole I enjoyed this one a little bit more than my (dim) memory would have suggested. Another to lose points for an ill-advised rap though, especially combined with the dreaded PORK PIE HAT

A lot of these Latvian entries really do feel like student projects, don't they?

See Greece 2015. Standard issue Eurovision ballad that aims for Lana del rey does Bond and lands on X Factor winner's album track. At least Latvia tend to be terrible in an interesting way, this sort of thing is truly neither use nor ornament. NEXT!
