Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 4: Greece, Latvia & Norway - RESULTS!

There is nothing remotely heterosexual about 'Love me with luscious thighs'. Written by a homosexual who is a bit hazy on what straight people actually do, if I'm any judge.

I actually thought that the Laura ‘Spam if you’re lucky’ Rizzotto one was quite good when I first heard it and then I quite quickly didn’t :)

Funny Girl behind What For and Beautiful Song is an injustice. Admittedly, my appreciation for it may have been helped by it following quite a lot of Latvian Eurovision entries. :zombie:

5th: Aisha - What For? (111pts)

Emergency lozenge request for Uncle Joe :(

For me, this is at the absolute peak of its genre. The combination of UTTERLY LUDICROUS lyrics and poor clueless Aisha delivering with the passion and self-possession that suggests she thinks the material is worthy of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell genuinely sent me a bit hysterical on revisiting it the other night.

Classic Latvia, should such a thing exist. Cruelly overlooked by the (Mister) Godless European PIGS in 2011, this finished last in its semi with just 11 points. When you swing this big, sometimes you gotta miss.

1 x 12 (Zu Klara)
1 x 1 (Buttertart)

I'd like to know what Mr God would think of her wearing an outfit that suggests she's about to let the milkman in.

In lieu of interesting things to say about this entry, I'll tell a little story. I first met somebody who is now a good Eurovision pal when I spotted him in the arena after the Semi where this NQ'd, dressed in a full Latvian chef costume complete with bakers hat with embroidered flag, sobbing like he'd just found out his parents had died. I knew at once we'd be friends.

I do love when our @VoR mentions his Eurovision friends, forgetting that we both have the SAME Eurovision friends. You ain’t all that special, love! :D

4th: Anmary - Beautiful Song (124pts)

From one ICONIC performance to another. Honestly Moopy, you do disappoint me. :(

How can you NOT adore this trash? The desperate housewives staging, the arched-eyebrow delivery, the tit wiggle. Truly a performance that HAS IT ALL. :disco:

Charlatans, the lot of you.

4 x 12 (VoR, Suomi, Penelope, Pingu)
4 x 1 (lolly, Win the Game, dmlaw, Superstylin')

This was before my time (ie before I actually bothered with semis) so it was a great discovery, what a ridiculous perf! :disco:

I must say that 'I was born in distant 1980' has joined my list of favourite opening lines. Particularly given that being born in 1980 was clearly Anmary's only qualification for getting the gig.

The cheek of her to call ME out!

:tongueout: YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH. I actually quite like the staggering, depressive accordion-tastica of ‘What For?’ and the utterly ludicrous lyrics, SO THERE. Also, WHERE’S THE COMPETITION?

I have a friend at work who has always referred to an ESC LOON thread. I looked him up on facebook once and noticed he was also friends with VoR.

To be fair it is quite a small community, everyone tends to know everyone.

Actually, the best bit of that Anmary TRIPE is that the very beginning of it reminds me of Louise's 2 Faced.

3rd: Triana Park - Line (134pts)

Post-Aminata, Latvia felt like a Eurovision nation reborn, and this electro-banger was a promising continuation of their upwards trajectory. On paper.

In the moment, however, the performance was a bit of a mess and they finished last in the semi. It was one of those performances that felt better suited to a festival than a TV show. Still, a noble try, even if the lead singer did look like a culturally appropriative Katy Perry having a bit of a meltdown.

I didn't think Moopy would send "Beautiful Song" to the top, but fourth is disappointing. It is probably in my top 20 Eurovision entries of all time - a timeless track that narrates the vanilla fantasy of living out a Eurovision dream. I don't know what that Will Ferrell Eurovision movie is going to be like but with "Beautiful Song" around it didn't need to be made. The folk and polka elements in it mean it will remain forever timeless - we may not be able to touch the shooting star, but we can sure as hell see it in all its glory.

I thought Triana Park would have done better than last, but last in the running order was not the best spot for them plus it all felt rather empty. Which is strange for such a demented song like that.

The performance is tragic. The song isn't so bad.
