9th: Ansambel Žlindra & Kalamari - Narodnozabavni Rock (28pts)

As easy to listen to as it is to spell, this feels like the soundtrack to the kind of grim night out in rural Ljubljana where your hangover kicks in midway through your second drink.

I suppose they all look like they're having a jolly good time, but musically it's absolutely all over the place. Take one thing off before you leave the house, loves. (I suggest the nasty electric guitar that makes an unwelcome entrance 2 minutes in).

A couple of surprise fans saved this from the bottom, tying it on points with poor hated Omar, who has most definitely gotten handsy with the lovely in red backstage at some local folk festival or another.

8th: Hannah Mancini - Straight Into Love (93pts)

Slovenia very nearly dropped out of Eurovision 2013 due to financial difficulties, instead skipping their usual national final and selecting this entry internally.

I for one am grateful they did, because surely there's no way poor Hannah would have made it through any kind of publicly mandated screening process. The vocals could kindly be described as 'enthusiastic', and the backing dancers look like they're one stumble away from socking the poor woman in the jaw. As it turned out, the European juries and televoters did that to her instead.

I don't know why, but I've become completely obsessed with her lacklustre arm flailing at 1.21. OOZING STAR QUALITY.

Unlike, say, Electro Swing, the music of Taylor Swift genuinely WAS very big in 2016, and those crafty Slovenes presumably thought they were onto something with this.

In all honesty, I'm quite surprised it didn't pay off. She has a good voice, it's very catchy and it feels like they did everything they could to push it into the finals (besides bribing a few venal Maltesers, possibly)

The aerial dancer is one of the more laughable wastes of time and money I've seen at Eurovision in recent years, mind. What on earth was the POINT?
