The man from Essex was a GP who was seeing patients normally for the last two weeks so GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

Joking aside, I am not an EXPERT VIROLOGIST and I do take this reasonably seriously but numbers going up in the UK was inevitable the moment cases were confirmed. 35 out of what, 70 million people? doesn't sound ALARMING to me really. The rate of confirmed cases is also steady, but slow - it's only going to go up over the next few weeks too, so brace yourselves for the INTERMINABLE HYSTERIA.

I have just had a friend who has created a group chat letting us all know she has been out preparing for the incoming epidemic to the area. She has been out to Holland and Barrett today to stock up on essential oils for her potion that will keep us all safe. I’m not quite sure what to say. :D

Honestly I'm going to volunteer to WORK AT HOME for SIX MONTHS OR SO out of the SHEER KINDNESS OF MY HEART (and not because it's my LONGSTANDING DREAM) just so I can CARRY ON THE BUSINESS if ALL THE OTHER OLD FUCKERS THERE CARK IT.

I mean let's face it I'm only going to catch it in the office as I never go OUT ANYWHERE ELSE and anyway MR S is VULNERABLE so I can't EVEN RISK THAT.
 
i just spoke to my folks who offered to send me a mask or 10. which put me in mind of about a decade back when they had me drinking iodine after rumours of some toxic spillage or other outside my city. i guess living through the chernobyl disaster in a nearby country run by imbeciles does things to people.

I just had a call from work and a colleague who sat next to me in the office last week for a day and who had recently returned from Northern Italy :side-eye: has fallen ill. They're ringing everyone who came into contact with her and asking whether we want to SELF-ISOLATE. I kind of want to but I think she's just being PARANOID, apparently she has a cough but no RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS and the nurse on the phone said that with those symptoms they wouldn't even SCREEN her (for now).

So, the UK is at 36 cases, 8 known to have recovered and no deaths. But every newspaper is at panic stations and talking about locking down cities.
 
I suspect it's a lot of right wing dog whistling, detention camps, closing borders, stopping foreigners coming into the country, the othering and denigration of outside culture, it feeds quite nicely into the presses nationalist narrative.
