But doesn’t that make sense? It won’t be as heavily policed and presumably the spread of disease won’t be as widespread outside the capital- as is happening here...
 
Now officially (and has been for some 50 posts) the second biggest news event Moopy has seen since Brexit (remember her?). I'm fairly sure this will be significantly larger in the end.
 
Is it the case that people are fleeing Paris because somehow they feel safer outside of the most densely populated part of the country?

Things are legit crazy here. Supermarkets are changing to limited hours, hiring crowd control and even thinking about limiting customer numbers.

I think the language he used made people scared. I called my mum and literally all I heard was my sister screaming in rage before she hung up.

That's what I was thinking today, if lockdown is not bad enough, I can't imagine doing it with my parents. Even when it's a bit boring, I prefer to be myself like sharing the flat with anyone else. My neighbours are 4, two of them kids around 12, I'm really sorry for them.

I was specially referring to the fact that they'll potentially be exposing people at risk. It's just completely irresponsible.
 
Seems that most pubs in York are staying open for now. A few have said they're going to close but most not.

People started fleeing Paris during the day hours before Macron even came on. The general reaction is that he was actually too soft, not even once mentioning the word lockdown!
 
I can see pubs in central London/the city closing but my local has no intention of closing at present.
 
My local pub to the office is the Golden Hart in Spitafields, I imagine Sandra would rather be dragged out dead than shut.
 
I work in (non essential, although debatable) retail and after giving completely different advice this afternoon to someone asking if they're ok to continue work (their sister who they live with was sent home with symptoms and asked to self isolate) where I said it's ok as long as they're feeling fine etc, I've now had to say, following government AND company advice this evening, that actually no, you probably need to be off for 2 weeks, especially as her whole family have been asked to quarantine.

This has caused all manner of shit and phone calls to me this evening and I feel guilty as fuck for what I feel like will be the start of the inevitable in our company. She'll be paid but will cause huge trauma in her shop for which I feel I've been the catalyst - this whole element of CHOICE feels fucking awful.

I can't make decisions at the best of times so just do ONE THING OR ANOTHER instead of this middle ground shit.

To be fair we'll probably be closed by the end of the week so it won't matter who's doing what.
 
We constantly make jokes all day but it's terrifying really - how many steps are you actually removed from full blown riots and violence? It feels so fucking precarious.

I popped into the local shop to buy essentials, like wine, and without thinking about panic buying, some spaghetti because I fancied it before seeing the reality of empty shelves. The local corner shop down my road couldn't even buy any at Cash and Carry to sell..

I'm sure it'll all be FINE (:)) but it's hard to actually get into that mode of thinking...
 
I think the reality of it all hit me today. My mum says she's still got a really tight chest from a bout of pneumonia she had recently, I think she still has it. I'm terrified that she gets it and since I'm her only lifeline most of the time I'm self-isolating as much as I can. I'm supposed to get the flu jab due to my childhood asthma though I haven't for the past few years. Not being able to see a light at the end of the tunnel is a bit depressing really.

You can’t get tested if you have mild symptoms and are just told to stay home and self isolate. Testing is only for specific groups here

Thankfully I work from home permanently so that’s not an issue but I tried to start work today but I felt nauseous and threw up and had to just head to bed

And yes, an example of why paying any attention to the UK infection numbers is futile. It's only the deaths which mean anything.

The news is obsessed with showing empty railway platforms and streets. That happens MANY TIMES A DAY!

Also 'Britain's town centres were empty this evening'. It's fucking Monday... It's always fucking dead!
 
We have that here too, I thought it was to make people think staying at home is the thing to do.
