Working from home today! But back in tomorrow... my manager is doing it on a rota system, which doesn't make sense and he knows it doesn't make sense but at the moment I'll take it.
 
When I went to the gym this morning, the world was noticeably quieter than yesterday- but then the drizzle meant not so many people out walking the dog/ running.

The gym itself was quiet but a few people in. I felt sorry for the instructor who turned up to take the (usually packed) spin class and found no one had turned up. She tried to persuade me, but when I politely declined, she looked as if her heart had broken and slunk off with a sad face on... :D :(

What can I do to help? I mean, the NHS. Is there ANYTHING that "normal" people with no medical training can do?

I'm DESPERATE to utilise myself in some positive way. I am already running errands for people isolated but other than that...

That's lovely really. We haven't got there yet but I suspect there may possibly be healthcare assistant type roles. You could always tweet or contact your local hospital / contact volunteering services etc. and see if they have any options/advice. Though the emphasis of course at the moment is everyone to stay home.

The NHS is pretty good generally at flexing - there are plenty of other issues at the moment some of which are in the public domain (e.g. the national shortage of personal protective equipment) so the focus is shifted to that at the moment but keep an eye out.

(Apart from the NHS I know that a lot of the larger supermarkets are recruiting to help with food stocks etc.)

I think we're looking at seeing if a rota will work as well. Although I'm sure as someone who isn't a parent, I'll be asked to feature more heavily.
 
I'm doing a rota system at work- one person in at a time to look after the phones and anything we need physically. Hopefully that will limit exposure to my team.

It's a ghost town as far as people going to work goes, but still lots of people in supermarkets/petrol stations etc trying to get what they need. Just incredibly eerie.

I'm still in the office but thank god I walk to work so don't have to battle tubes that aren't running.
 
My best mate is currently training as a teacher. Suddenly she is looking after half a school of army kids and her own boys will have to move schools as she's now considered a key worker. Wtf is going on?

this guy i know made a joke at the last social gathering i went to before the lockdown. before, if someone farted they would cough to cover it up. now they do the opposite :basil:

every day that passes i'm more inclined to think that low-risk individuals should be tested for antibodies and/or exposed and quarantined for a couple of weeks. i'm aware little is known so far but it's becoming increasingly obvious that this is not going away anytime soon.
 
That also says that China has 34 new confirmed cases when the BBC has reported that no new cases were reported today.

The 34 cases were all 'imported' from other countries - there were no transmissions within china

I think I PROBABLY have it. I had swollen tonsils earlier this week and have had a sporadic dry cough, together with a general sense of malaise (WHAT'S NEW THERE?), aches and pains, and a shortness of breath. It's not been too unpleasant thus far, and hopefully it stays that way (knock on wood).

It would be useful to know if I definitely have it, because, you know, I have had contact with various humans and spent my working days until earlier this week in a building frequented by OAPs, but alas, they're only testing people who are NEARLY DEAD or Idris Elba.

If anyone knows of any Tories in the North West, let me know so I can cough through their letterbox.

I'm always very wary about giving them money, given that I'm quite sure that a significant number will spend it straight on spice. But if there are less people on the streets generally, their income from begging or whatever will have dwindled. And a lot of the services that offer free food (cafes, food banks etc) have already shut up shop, or will do soon. It's fucking grim and at a time when we're all at a state of heightened emotions, it made me literally weep this morning. So I went into a Greggs, got a gift card and put a fiver on it and gave it to a girl I saw sheltering in the Debenhams staff entrance. I just hope that other people do similarly.

I love @Sheena 's idea of helping the NHS. It would be wonderful to do some good. But appreciate we might be adding to the problem rather than solving it.

Well quite. After my Facebook post yesterday several people messaged me to say either they think they have it too or they know someone who does. Because they're hardly testing anyone, you can be pretty sure the official numbers are a HUGE underestimate.
 
I've just spoken to a GP who also works in A&E - safe to say this is way more serious than we're being told.
